Can you believe this is only the second time I've drawn Nikki? I wanted to draw a character that I haven't drawn before, or a character that I haven't drawn in awhile.

Anyways, I drew this yesterday morning with the intent of coloring it the way Universal did while Balto was in production. I don't know the exact procedure they used, but the way to color a scanned drawing is to set the drawing layer to multiply and color underneath it on another layer.

While I was using a different kind of procedure (a more advanced way), things just weren't working out for me. It really all started with my mother's scanner. lol While it took me several minutes to figure out how to get the scan started, the quality of the scan wasn't that great. While it's smaller in size here, for whatever reason the scans kept coming out blurry (mostly visible on Nikki's back half). It may have been a problem with the drawing not being completely flat or something.

After trying to mess around with coloring it in Photoshop the way I had intended to, it just didn't look right. The problem was the lines were too thick and messy. While I dreaded the thought of inking a drawing that is 6776x5104px, I spent at least 2hrs going around this drawing with the pen tool, which I do not like using. After I completed that and the coloring, I wasn't (and I'm still not) sure if I like it or not. So for now I'll just submit the pencil drawing until I figure out where I want to go from here, or if I'm just going to leave it where it's at.
