Realization

Apollo turned his back on Cadence and Nickel's dissapearing figures. The small pup squirmed on the ground, feeling the cold and abandonment from its milkgiver. It whimpered feebly. Apollo turned back and saw the pup. He glared down at it. If it weren't for this THING he would still be Cadence's mate. He would be the stud of the town. He would have everything he wanted. Apollo spun around and walked. He stopped and stared at the small bundle of golden fur. "WHAT?" He snarled angrily. He could end this pup's life. He could end it all. But that wouldn't bring back Cadence, or the town's respect. He flopped down and ignored the pup and pondered. He pondered about how everything had gone wrong. He turned to face the pup. It struggled up to its paws. It slowly walked forward and rested its tiny paw on Apollo's nose. He hobbled forward and licked the red husky's nose. Apollo stopped dead and stared at the pup as it kept pawing at his nose. Apollo felt tears rush from his eyes as his heart burst. This was his responsibility. He had created this small soul, this little beating heart. This pup held a part of him.

The last part is very powerful. So many people undervalue children today, especially infants. They shun teh responsibility and fail to recognize the joy that is possible only through the young.
