I like the idea of a selection of the week, but I thought steet said it would update automatically every week (it doesn't seem to have changed in some places since it was first set up). Is something wrong, or am I just missing something?
steet
It's not automatic, the mods have to choose them; I have already said
it. And, if the mods would care to READ the instructions I give, the
creations in the selection of the week are the first one of each
section (so you need to move up the creation you would like to display
here in every list)

Actually we can't, as the new system isn't finished yet, or so I
last heard. I just tried changing the fanart of the week on Saturday and nothing happened. We'll just have to wait until Steet finishes the new system I suppose. I don't know how the new one is going to work, if it's automatic or manual. |

A mod has to change it. And it seems none of the other mods are
taking that into consideration.. |

Are you really surprised by that? I've been railing on about the
lack of consistency (and fairness) of such features for months. And usually all I get are excuses and hostile defenses from staff members and their friends. On top of it all, just as steet replied in my criticism of the feature itself (while I also said it was - in of itself - a wonderful new idea), it is not objective. It is most definitely SUBjective. Meaning "unfair". Biased. I mean, look who's on the list. Greykitty's been on there TWICE since the feature started (only recently)...and she joined back up juuuuuuuust before the feature started. Coincidence? Oh, sure. Rotramel the Writer is fan fiction of the week. For about four weeks now (though even before that, "fan fiction of the week" actually being "fan fiction of the month or months" was nothing new). Coincidence, given that he's in a relationship with one of the fan fiction moderators? Oh, sure. Even steet himself being listed twice on that list? Not that he shouldn't have a chance to be listed. But one has to admit...he announces the feature, says IN that announcement that it will be subjective (as a feature), and then is listed twice? In public office, in private clubs and organizations, and on most websites, that'd be considered extremely prejudicial (like a group leader giving himself awards and promotions regardless of the views of the members). Hey - not saying steet doesn't deserve it...but I think you get the idea. This feature has ended up the way most of them have on this site - biased and poorly-managed. It's unfortunate, isn't it? (And now, we shall hear from those who want to flame me because I spoke in less than complimentary and appreciative terms about certain members, this feature, and even the webmaster...which indicates just how they will have missed the damned point.) |
