nava/wolf
does any body know who Balto's real parents were
baltoseppala
Nava/wolf...unfortunately, that particular information has
not been uncovered and/or made available to the public, and may have been lost to history.
There is probably some record of his pedigree in the Seppala
family archives, but they have never released it (seeing as
Leonhard Seppala had a very low opinion of Balto, especially
after the Serum Run, one can understand why).
He was born in Leonhard Seppala's kennels in 1922 (either the Cape Horn summer kennels, or the Nome winter kennels), and was
a purebred husky of the Chukchi Inuit stock of dogs (which
are the ancestors of two sledding breeds: the Siberian Husky
and the Seppala [Siberian] Sled Dog).
Sorry I
couldn't be of more help! But it is likely that no one
except the Seppala family themselves could be. And I have
no contacts with anyone of that family who has access to
such records, if they even exist.
