In plain fact, there were actually any number of breeds and mixes in Alaska at the time period. But this is based upon what breeds actually existed at the time. And some of them (such as the Pomeranian and even the Siberian Husky) were somewhat different at the time than now.

And i`ve found two more interesting breeds: Karelian bear dog and russo european laika. Since they were founded in Finland and Russia, could they be in Alaska in Balto ` s time ?

I thougth the same about Klee Kais and Chinooks, but in my book about dogs, Klee Kai is founded in 1988 and Chinook in the beggining on 20th century.

I realize that, I was just throwing in the realism because the question says "during Balto's time". No big deal really.

I know Klee Kai and Chinooks weren't founded yet while Balto movie takes place but Star is a Klee Kai and Kaltag is a Chinook. A bit of unrealism from movie creators themselves.

If they meant the real Balto, then the Klee Kai wouldn't be realistic. Just sayn'.

I will also mention a breed that Troll didn't list, and I don't believe I see many of on here, and that is the Seppala Husky. Yes, I realize that you want to get away from the commonly seen Husky, Wolf, etc, but the Seppala Husky is viewed as a breed of its own. The Seppala Huskies are taller and longer, and various other factors.

Siberian huskies, Alaskan huskies, Greenland dog, Samoyed, Chinook (Kaltag was one), Alaskan klee kai (Star is believed to be one), Mackenzie River Husky.
