A friend and I are trying to make Balto music videos or parodies. But we don't know what programs we need to use and we never made a video before. (At least I never had).

What are the steps needed to make and send in a Balto video?

If you're a beginner at putting together videos, or just want to put together a simple movie with clips set to music, then Windows Movie Maker would be a good beginning for you. I use Windows Live Movie Maker, which is basically the same thing. It's just a more "streamlined version." If you want to add some special effects or unique features, Sony Vegas would be a good choice.

If you want to make a good music video, tips I would recommend would be to use clips that match the lyrics or go well with instrumentals/solos and to not use clips that are too long or don't have anything very interesting going on in them (unless it goes well with what's happening in the song like I said.)

You need to have Balto movies and some editing program(Windows Movie Maker is not really great but it's good for beginners). For combining clips - I can't say much. For each their own. I can give you tips what not to do and what is rather bad, but you need to find your own style.
