Here's a question: When somebody wants Balto(the real one) for as a character in a fictional story or novel. They want to know if they have to ask someone permission to use him. If yes, then who owns the real Balto today? Once read the question answer it immediately.
Kelsey the ZOMBIE
No one can 'own' the real Balto because hes not made up by any member. He is a REAL dog. You can make your own fan version of him that is referenced from the real Balto, but that's still a fan character. If you want to write a fictional story or novel, you don't have to credit another member unless you specifically want to write about someone's realistic fan Balto, like JerseyCaptain's.

Kelsey the Zombie and MightyBalto1925 are correct...I already have a
fan character version of the real Balto (the real-world one).
However, I do not claim to "own" the real Balto of history...only the
fan character, just for your own information. While I suppose you
could create your own version of him as a fan character, I would
prefer you simply asked to use mine for a fan creation. I wouldn't
necessary refuse (depending upon how you were going to use him...and I
would reserve the decision on that information). Having several fan
character versions of a real serum run dog (or human, for that matter)
would only confuse things, and would water down the impact and
effectiveness of each character. |
