In Balto II Wolf Quest, Balto refers to the wolverines as a clan and Niju mentions a 'bear clan' as well. Though we don't see them, could there be other clans based on the totem animals that are symbolic to the film? The totem animals were; a raven, a fox, a caribou, a wolverine, a bear, and a wolf. And notice how Nava's pack is never referred to as a 'pack' in the movie, it is called a clan, instead. This means Nava's pack is obviously the 'wolf clan'. And it's apparent by both Balto and Niju's dialogue that there is more than one clan in the forest. Are the wolverine, bear, and wolf clans the only ones? Or are there other clans also based on the totem animals? I like to think that the caribou that migrated were the caribou clan but there's really no evidence in the movie that points to that aside from two characters mentioning two other clans. Could there also be a fox clan or even a raven clan? Please tell me what you think but don't leave hate comments.

As I had said in the post which has mysteriously (and suspiciously) disappeared, during my visit to Alaska back in 2008, and specifically to the Alaska Native Heritage Center outside of Anchorage ( http://www.alaskanative.net/), which is run by a cooperative effort by the five recognized Native Alaskan peoples, "clan" is a term which originates with the Native Alaskans...at least as it pertains to the stuff as seen in Balto 2: Wolf Quest. And this is certainly where the producers of the cartoon got the idea. The Native Alaskans call their cultural groups "clans" rather than "tribes" the way Native Americans do. That is how the information is presented both at the center and in a lot of literature about the Native Alaskan peoples (including travel and historical literature).

the word clan refers to a group of seperate families linked by mutual
intrest or needs in the case of a wolf pack, seperate wolves create
seperate pups and have different parents and are each linked by
heritage or survival, im not sure about the wolverines though... |

Hmm. I KNOW I posted a response here. And it successfully posted.
But now it appears to have disappeared. How very upsetting. And how
mysterious. And I am certain that is no glitch. |
