Hello,
I have been really trying to take my fanarts here to the "next level" on Photoshop, and saw these certain ways of coloring and shading, located in these two videos.

The shading of the fur, the way the artists use what appears to be the "lasso" tool on PS to color in and shade, as well as the background in video 2 (grass, sun, and such) are quite interesting, but I am at a lost of how to do that. That and just the ways that everything so easily "blends" in at video 2.
If it would take a while to explain, you`re more than welcome to PM me.
And no, I`m not stealing their ideas, I`m just trying to see how I can use this concept to make coloring and shading easier and more interesting for my fanarts.
I`ve been pausing the videos constantly, but I`m still unsure of how it`s actually done.
Please help, and thank you for your time.

My best guess
They made a new layer on top of the colored lineart, and then used the lasso tool to cut away the shaded areas. With the area still selected they used the gradient tool to make the shading look "blended." To do that they have the color they want, and by editing the gradient tool, they set the other side of it to transparency.
