I created an image, a re-colouring of the Balto Source Banner.

But NO ONE told me that this was a PRIVATE image that was NOT TO BE USED!
If it is not to be used, why is it on here? And if you have comments, please don't let them be rude, because I am honestly confused, and annoyed because I don't think that the comments were too nice.
I am quite new here, and I did credit Grey Wolf and Balto Source for it! Can someone help me? I don't want to be stealing images, but I wasn't told that this was stealing!

So...what? Balto Source is not supposed to have a banner now, because the image is listed as "private"? Right.
There are plenty of images on the site which require permission before you can use them or alter them. That is not only good sense, it is also common sense across the board when it comes to artwork posted online. Something created by someone is their intellectual property, and it is at the very least discourteous to dive right in, take it, and alter it (and then claim it to be yours...whether or not you specifically did so in this particular case), and then use the excuse "hey - if it's private, you shouldn't post it on the internet".
It IS theft, pure and simple. And the fact that it is sitting online does not make stealing it (no matter what you might call it in defense) a rightful action. Period. It is no wonder so many artists (even young ones) are offended by art theft online, when they see the reactions of those who get caught red-handed ("OMG, its just teh internet! i am not a thief! if yu dont want it being used by other people, dont post it on teh net!") UGH.
