Is it legal to 'rip' a DVD to make music videos? Sorry that warning whenever you watch a DVD freaks me out :P Also How do you rip anyway? I discovered I can do it, but I'm not sure how.

Thank you ^^

Ripping in of itself is NOT illegal. The only time you face legality issues is if you then try to sell ripped copies, show them to large groups of people (for profit or otherwise...this mainly meaning showing the movies themselves) or you do anything to claim ownership of material that is not yours (say, scenes from a ripped DVD used for a music video...which you have to make clear, in the description of your video on places such as YouTube, that the stuff is copyright of such-and-such studio. YouTube also requires that you actually have the permission of the copyright owner before posting said material...or they sometimes blank out the audio section of videos...sometimes. Though it is an annoying practice and rule). More info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ripping#United_States

Ripping a movie is indeed illegal. Many people, including myself, rip DVD's.

Now I'm not the best on this subject but I believe its only illegal if you rip the DVD and sell them. Otherwise you may face copyright issues.

When ever you make a MUSIC VIDEO, it's taking clips from the movie, and music, which people can download and burn to their CD players or what ever they have. (I know, I burn music from Youtube sometimes) So yes, in a way its illegal for music videos.
