Linearts are still allowed to be used and mods are still discussing adoptables.
Officially validated by Steet
Hello members of Animation Source!
I revised it and just got to the point, I apologize for any prior confusion.
In your fanimage gallery, there should be at least 1 graphic. (example shown below) If you are planning to make an image gallery soon, then your first image must be the graphic.
Blank renders are still allowed. Renders are still allowed. Just remember that 20% of your gallery should be images/graphics of official site characters.
Also, if you send in a blank render/lineart a character icon should not be included.
Along with renders, wolf makers, horse makers, Dolldivine ect... are no longer allowed in any source. Studying the image rules it states "Pictures drawn by other artists aren't allowed." So we won't accept them anymore. This also applies to the character full body image, it cannot be made on dolldivine or any other wolf/horse/lion ect maker.
Starting in a week, moderators will start deactivating galleries that do not have at least 1 graphic within the gallery.
Examples of graphics:
Avatars-
Banners-
Signatures-

Mini modding: The mods have agreed we have seen an increase in mini modding going on in alot of the sources. Please, if a moderator is handling the problem, allow them to. If a moderator is not around, report the problem, don't try to take it on yourself. Also, please, when reporting something add the comment "reported" so other know that it has already been reported. Along the same line, don't just bash the member. Actually give them real critique so they can use it in the future. Only pointing out the problem won't help them get better.

Especially when it's twenty or more characters which are hardly ever used but for maybe onsey-twosey role-plays that never really go anywhere anyway.
And then there's that whole originality and creativity question.

No, you are not doing anything wrong. While Mighty is correct that rendering an official character over themselves is against the rules, I took a look at your image, and it is fine. The main issue is galleries that contain hundreds (I'm just barely exaggerating) of renders of their characters with no official characters in sight. It does state in the rules that your first image must be of an official character, which is normally a graphic, but I suppose it does not have to be. You've found a way around it, but you are not against the rules. And, yes, posting a graphic now would be fine, I think. Just keep the 1:5 ratio and it really doesn't matter the order.
"I.. don't really understand." - Annita89
What don't you understand? For every five images that you have, at least one of them must contain official characters. One of these images must be just official characters, which is most normally done by graphics. Normally this should be a new member's first image, but for older members, it should just be in the gallery somewhere. Taking a look at your gallery, your ratio is just fine. I'm not sure if memes count as graphics, but I don't see why they shouldn't be.
You experienced poor moderation. Rendering over a character as the same character for a first image is considered cheating. An image like that, as a first image, should have been deactivated, and the mod who deactivated it is suppose to inform you of that and explain the rule.
"if i post a graphic that includes only official characters, will my image gallery still get deactivated?"
No, your gallery won't be deactivated (though you don't appear to have one, so you have nothing to worry about).
"and also, were can you read that your first image has to be a graphic? for as far i know, the rules only said that the first image had to have official characters in it. "
This rule is first presented to you when you don't have a image gallery on here (or any other source). I know it doesn't specifically say that the first image needs to be a graphic, even though I think it should be a little more specific. Unfortunately, the only one with the ability to change that is Steet, the webmaster. Even if one was to contact him (and that's a whole other story), he would probably say no to the idea.
"is it okay to just post a graphic now, or do i have to replace my first image? i'm a little confused."
I'm not sure I know why you're asking this, you don't even have a gallery as of now. Unless a mod or yourself removed the images.
Anyway, as long as you have at least one Balto related image in your gallery, then you have nothing to worry about.

Finally, the banning of those wolf-makers that people use for characters (and to often make images of their characters in), that's something I believe a great deal of people have been waiting for. After all, it's pretty much down right lazy. Wolf-makers/horse-makers/lion-makers etc. change the colours, builds, eyes, fur, etc of characters by clicks of buttons, which really requires no effort at all. People should put in the effort to render, or even go the extra mile to draw their characters for their full body pictures. Not simply stick a 2 minute click-of-buttons picture up made on Doll Divine. Don't get me wrong, the artists who created them are very talented, BUT that's THEIR art.
Anyways, I really like this new rule! I agree with what Mighty said about these random adoptables, shouldn't they be moved to the adoptables board on the forums? (I think we have one, if memory serves me right). Well done mods! I am 100% for this new rule^^

haha, I thought this always was a rule?

*sighs* Some people do graphics, because that's what they do, and all of them contain official canon characters. Others do renders that contain official characters, but evidently, they don't count as a first image, which must be a graphic of some kind. Renders of fan characters that have a strong, legit connection to the official characters are all well and good too.
If the rules were more in-depth we wouldn't be having problems like this.
This does not fall on the fault of the members of the site, old or new. It's hard to know what is allowed, what isn't, how much of one thing is good, while the lack of another is not when even the rules themselves are unclear.
I thought this was a fan site?
If some people want to make their gallery full of renderings that they made based off one of their favorite movies, and let their friends use them, what's the problem with that? I understand art theft is an issue, don't get me wrong. But to band them all together? :/
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I really don't see a problem. A lot of people use the renderings they get to make a new design on their beloved Disney characters.

Honestly...try doing some art of your own. Regardless of whether or not you think it'd "make babies cry". Or render something. In accordance with these rules naturally.
There is that, and there are other things to do on this website. Er...yeah...

Making graphics involves taking images (in this case, screencaps) and adding various effects. Cropping, adjusting the color, adding text, adding textures, making collages, etc. For example:

I am of the personal opinion that adoptables of any kind should not be on the Fan Images. There is an entire board on the forums for adoptables, and adopting via the forums is a lot more organized and moderated than on a gallery. Fan Images should be just be graphics (ie. wallpapers, avatars, banners, desktops, ect...) and renders (all issues aside with that topic; their allowed so they have to go somewhere). BrownWolf mentioned the "Guess the Parents" images, which I find fun and interesting and unique. BUT I personally don't think they should be adopted out. We have enough useless fan characters on this site already, and while I'm not against AU characters that are well-developed (ie. Cat's Fade), it's mostly just on excuse to have more under developed characters.
Anyways, to steer myself back on topic and away from the character issues, I think that the "Guess the Parents" images should only be a game. Just. A. Game. And adoptables should be limited to a thread on the forums and images should be limited to graphics and renders and line-arts.
P.S. To the mods, will the Character Section be cleaned up soon? There's been some issues coming up recently, and because it is the most popular (I'm assuming) section of the site, I think there really needs to be some unity on character relations to the Balto universe, color saturation and design, and how long a character bio must be. Please start discussing it soon...
And to Woopywulf, graphics are a mix of official images, or just one image, usually with some effects added and sometimes words. As stated above, the most common are desktop wallpapers and banners, but also signatures and avatars. Renders of official characters (however that works...
Wolf
Adoptables should remain allowed, if, and only if they're connected to whatever source they're put on. Like, let's say a 'Guess the parents' adoptables.
As far as the lineart of adoptables... Really, in truth, adoptables that are used with different lineart on each image should remain. The ones that are used with the same one lineart on each image should not.
f
For example. Would a render of one(or more) of the Universal characters with OUT one of your own characters be considered a "graphic"? Or is it something different?
NT- Changing the ratio to 20% is a more common rule, approved by the webmaster. It hasn't been modified yet when you send in a image, moderators can't change that. Hopefully though that will be fixed.
Mighty- Can what be applied? Adoptables can't be made on the wolf makers if that what you mean. They Certaintly aren't considered a graphic and shouldn't include any official character icons. They are considered a fan render.
Blazetail- MLP? I would assume that's not allowed, unless its an official character mlp style. I noticed another moderator closed alot of SS reports.. Can you send me a PM if there are still some problems about certain images.
