Huh. Because I talked to people in Europe some years ago who had a copy of the DVD with the documentary on it. The Region 1 DVD never, ever had the documentary (whatever documentary was supposed to be included with it).

I don't realy think it's a problem with the Region 1 DVD as my Region 2&4 DVD (as in the DVD does both) lacks the documentry (as I assume we're still talking about the above documentry). That being said, the back of my DVD case says that the special features include "Making of Balto" which it does not. Instead I've got a documentry about the serum run and where Balto ended up after the serum run.

My guess is this was an independent documentary created for the BBC Two channel, so perhaps there's a licensing agreement (I could be wrong, as I'm illiterate with legal stuff) that prevented Universal from using this documentary. But as for the documentary on the region 2 DVD, it really is a shame that it wasn't included on the region 1 DVD. Even with a recent re-release, there has been no effort to remove or correct it.

I seem to recall some past discussion about the absence of the documentary, from the Region 1 DVD, was due to some error or accident in production of the DVD package. I could be wrong on this. Of course, it could just have easily been a rights issue.

It would be interesting to see some actual evidence in either case, or some other official explanation. Because it was wrong to have denied Region 1 viewers of this (or any other) documentary which appeared on the DVD in other regions.

Great! This is probably that "famous" documentary that was aired on TV in France a bit before the movie was released, and which never aired again! This should have been included on the DVD

Maybe for a future Bluray release?

I think this documentary has over 20 years. Anyway, nice, I didn't know there was another one too apart from the one on the DVD.
