Over the last few days there have been characters submitted that are against the rules. So here is a review of those rules again:
Hello Animation Source!
"Mods have noticed all the problems going on with characters and what is accepted.
The first and probably one of the most important rules is that sparkle dogs/horses/lion ect... are not allowed. And if you aren't sure what a sparkle character is, it is any character that has an unnatural color that you would not find on the regular animal. So for almost any animal, that includes the colors blue, green, red, purple, pink ect. To go along with that, unrealistic designs are allowed. Please do not give your character excessive jewlery, this does include bracelets, necklaces, collars, leg warmers ect...
Many characters are getting deactivated because either we ask you to clean the body/head image or you don't have enough bio.
When it comes to finding a head image, make sure it is of only the head. It must be colored in and drawn/rendered cleanly. Linearts are allowed and if you choose to use one, make sure that you credit it. That is very important. Same goes for the body picture. It has to be colored in cleanly, again, if you use a lineart, credit the artist. A word of advice, if your character contuines to get deactivated because we ask you to clean the body picture, I suggest you use a lineart There are a ton out there, especially of wolves.
Now about the bio. What most mods look for are;
Name:
Age:
Gender:
Likes:
Dislikes:
Personality:
History:
Related to an official site character:
Those are our main focus, but users also include Parents, siblings, mate, pack/herd/pride and more. A great example of a good bio are these character here;
https://www.animationsource.org/balto/en/chars/Hotaru_34509/40675.html
https://www.animationsource.org/spirit/en/chars/kea/41222.html ,
https://www.animationsource.org/lion_king/en/chars/Kanu_FA/32987.html
Always always try to make an effort in your bio, do not just rush through your characters, if you create a charcacter, it should be for a reason. Which does up the point to try to include your character in fan works. We are seeing to many characters in where the creator does nothing with them.
Another important factor. Your first few characters MUST be related to an official Balto character. Our webmaster said when it comes to relation to an official site character, it is more of a ratio. So try to keep the majority of your characters with a relation to the an official characters that is part of the movie.
Another small thing that came to my attention from Blazetail, if you are on Spirit Source, do not create a parrot or a lion. Try to keep character's species one that you see in the movie. If you decide to create a character of an animal that doesn't appear in the movie, but can be found where the movie takes place, they MUST have a relation to an official movie character.
If you have any questions regarding characters, feel free to send a PM to the moderators or just any individual mod!
For Spirit Source: Pegasus' and unicorns are NOT allowed."

This is strictly hypothetical for my part; although I have a long-abiding interest in accounts of unusual animals such as these, I haven't seen The Jungle Book in years and have too much writing to do as it is.

Of course, the question of what constitutes the rules in a more general sense just keeeeeps on changing, especially as unnecessary and/or excessive knee-jerk reactions to drama and to individuals. There is the question of unprinted and unposted "rules", rules which seem to change like night and day, aaaaand then the question of what SHOULD constitute rules (but may not yet BE rules) based upon the general and all-encompassing notions of good taste, good form, and "family/kid-friendly"...violations of which occur on this site all of the time. And which violations are frequently upheld by certain moderators despite logic and good sense.

I think a lot of users are confused by this rule. Balto related doesn't mean that your character has to be related to Balto or Jenna by blood. It means that your character needs to fit into the Balto universe (friend, relative, mate, etc). But anything else that has nothing to do with Balto shouldn't even be on the site, really. I don't understand why that is such a hard concept to grasp.

I recently posted up a character on TLK Source and it got deactivated because it wasn't related to an official TLK character which again I find to be unfair if you can't make them have a relation with Semi-Cannon characters why are they even in the character boards ?. I'm not trying to make anyone's job harder I just feel that if Semi-Cannon characters are up there we should be able to make some relation with them regardless of them being official on the movies.
You know guys, it's not a big deal if your character is not allowed on the site, like said Draco, there is a lot of sites, blogs and forum where you can post them. There is nothing wrong with sparkle characters, we can like them a lot or just not, but on a site like Balto where there is only natural ( or at least cartoon ) colors, this is not allow cause it doesn't feats with the univers.
This is already really nice that you can send your fan character ( as soon as they are movie related ) and make creations about them. There is some fan site which ONLY accepted FAN art, nothing more. Then, there is still freedom
For MLP, this would not change anything on the other sites. Just like ADGTH. Every site has it own rules about spakles ( strongly natural, cartoony or unatural colors allowed ). It's the same with magic. Then, no problems =3
Then, I think this news was needed ( thanks cause I've to deactive a LOT of characters which are not movie related, especialy on Spirit source and lion king source ) and this can make a little remind to the members. It's sad that it turns into an other sparkles discution. Complain will NEVER get them back
As long as no one's giving the brownish-gray Balto [or any other in-canon natural-colored characters] a rainbow-colored child, mate or friend that is of the sparkling kind, we should be more than good. Just offering my two cents in the matter.

Well, there is a difference in posting a character that is over saturated verses a character with a tint to it. So as long as it's not too severely over saturated for a Balto character, then it should be okay. But of course that is just my opinion.

Perhaps then, there'd be reduced drama.

Animals include: dogs, cats, birds, livestock, turtles, buffalo, amphibians, reptiles, etc. All of them are colored NATURALLY. (And are still interesting to look at, because the show's character designers understand the concept of different body types, unlike the folks who are angry because they can't post their hot pink Jenna clone)
Mythical creatures include: dragons, griffons, serpents, hydras, manticores, "fruit bats", parasprites, "timber wolves" (wolves made of wood, yes), Windigo, diamond dogs (basically if Gollum and a dog used Namekian Fusion) and phoenixes.
If they were to make an Equestria Girls Source, then yea sure dump your Sparkledogs there. Hell, you can even make sparklehumans (maybe that'll even get some people to draw them). But even then. In that world, even the sparkledogs are dogs. So they're to be treated like dogs and not some special little snowflake who can use telekinetic powers and poop lightning bolts.
See? Even a mythical world like Equestria doesn't have sparkledogs. Mainly because they're a self-imposed overly-complicated problem. No one wants them, and dA is desperate enough to allow them. So stop making this an issue because you can't post them on one site and can't get extra attention for it.

Although... you do realize that Dixie does have a slight unnatural coloring of lavender for a Pomeranian just as Niju [and a couple of other wolves in WQ] look navy in color, another unnatural color. I completely understand how it's best to keep fan-characters as natural-looking as possible and my own characters are all non-sparkled canines, but I think that some genetic artistic license should be considered for just these two characters at least.
As long as no one's giving the brownish-gray Balto [or any other in-canon natural-colored characters] a rainbow-colored child, mate or friend that is of the sparkling kind, we should be more than good. Just offering my two cents in the matter.

Either way, regardless of your opinion, sparkledogs have nothing to do with Balto and this is a Balto fansite. Thus, they serve no purpose here. I don't know why this is so hard for people to understand, especially when places like DA exist.
And as for MY Little Pony Source, I wouldn't worry. The demand for it is low, and no one is working on it, and the graphics aren't even complete.
