Linearts are still allowed to be used and mods are still discussing adoptables.
Officially validated by Steet
Hello members of Animation Source!
I revised it and just got to the point, I apologize for any prior confusion.
In your fanimage gallery, there should be at least 1 graphic. (example shown below) If you are planning to make an image gallery soon, then your first image must be the graphic.
Blank renders are still allowed. Renders are still allowed. Just remember that 20% of your gallery should be images/graphics of official site characters.
Also, if you send in a blank render/lineart a character icon should not be included.
Along with renders, wolf makers, horse makers, Dolldivine ect... are no longer allowed in any source. Studying the image rules it states "Pictures drawn by other artists aren't allowed." So we won't accept them anymore. This also applies to the character full body image, it cannot be made on dolldivine or any other wolf/horse/lion ect maker.
Starting in a week, moderators will start deactivating galleries that do not have at least 1 graphic within the gallery.
Examples of graphics:

Mini modding: The mods have agreed we have seen an increase in mini modding going on in alot of the sources. Please, if a moderator is handling the problem, allow them to. If a moderator is not around, report the problem, don't try to take it on yourself. Also, please, when reporting something add the comment "reported" so other know that it has already been reported. Along the same line, don't just bash the member. Actually give them real critique so they can use it in the future. Only pointing out the problem won't help them get better.

Your whole gallery WILL NOT be deleted. All this news is saying is that your first image needs to be a graphics, and that you need to keep a mix between the two.
When it comes to "not everyone has fancy programs to make graphics/no skill", that's nothing more than a excuse. There are plenty of free programs out there that will allow you to make graphics such as: Gimp, Photofiltre, Paint.net, Pixlr and probably more. Heck, you can even use Paint for graphics; I've done it. And as for skill? No one said that it's required that you have an image gallery on this site.
You know what? This whole thing reminds me a lot of how people complained about sparkle dogs being banned. There were those arguments of "by banning sparkle dogs, you're banning our creativity". You don't need the rainbow to be creative, same goes for images. You don't need to render to be creative. And if your response is "I'm bored of the same screenshots, and I want to be creative" then why not take up drawing instead? Now I have nothing against the occasional render, or fake screenshot, but when it becomes a matter of the person does nothing but renders, linearts and blank renders then I see an issue.

Not spamming with JUST one or another, but being varied, having a good mix. Yes, graphics may be harder for some people, but just like rendering, it takes PRACTICE. :-) There are many good graphic sites out there, and you just have to keep trying. Once you get going though, it can be pretty hard to stop.
I understand the mods' concern with renders. But honestly, aren't we being a might too picky here? Some people don't have the skill or programs to make decent graphics. But some, like Cat has done, use paint and create beautiful renders. Paint is by no means a good graphic program, but can be used for drawings and renders. So you would rather them fill their galleries with...less than satisfactory graphics than send in a perfectly fine related render?
In a sense, renders ARE graphics. It's a heck of a lot smoother and easier to make a fake screenshot through rendering than through cutting and pasting, and there are a whole lot more emotional and postural possibilities as well. And it helps one who isn't good with capturing the face and body structure of a movie character through drawing it.
Anyway, I do have a school project to attend to. This is just my humble opinion, but I did wish to throw it in the mix.
I love how I sent Balto related renders and it gets deactivated because some mod is bawwing how I need a graphic.
http://oi48.tinypic.com/j8h7qa.jpg Here ya go, here's your graphic. So original.
..Eeeyeah.
As you can see, it's not my strong point. Would you like it if I spammed my gallery with /that/ more than http://oi45.tinypic.com/24epbt4.jpg this?
It's pretty much like telling a new member to redraw a Mona Lisa portrait. LOL oh wait, everyone already does that.
Point proven.
No wonder everyone is leaving here..
I refuse to upload anything I haven't drawn =/ It pisses me off enough when people on other websites use my art to make banners without permission, even more so when they put it's (c) TO THEM!
I'm not going to do the same to the amazing people who spend hours of their life working on the movies we all love =w=; Maybe you wanna re-think this rule?
The character rules we made a news topic about a few months ago was indeed approved.
Any confusion about this I apologize, I have simplified them the best I can.

All the bickering, the petty little allegiances, the maneuvering, and all that other nonsense really drags this place down into the proverbial gutter.
And while it may be frustrating for all of us to have to wait on steet to attend to e-mails, PMs and site issues whenever it happens to suit him personally, or when he encounters some free time in his schedule, it certainly ISN'T hard to blame him for his apathy about dealing with the English side.
I don't know whether or not anyone needs to ask him what HE wants for this site, however. That should be relatively evident in the basic structure of how the site was put together in the first place, and whatever LEGITIMATE rules exist so far on "the books". I did type out a pretty extensive and thorough posting in the Suggestions Board, on the forum, to try and address a large number of current issues on this side...
...Whether or not he's actually read it is questionable. But I sure wish he would. And I wish he'd then ADDRESS it.

If I were him, I wouldn't want to be around much either.
The rules themselves are actually REALLY simple, they've never caused a problem on the French side where they're the same - the only difference is the French mods haven't expanded on them by tons. A lot of the English rules honestly don't even need to be there, much like this new one seeing as it's technically already covered in the existing rules (providing I've been able to decipher it properly).
When you sit back and look at the (censored) he has to deal with from the English side it's no wonder he's fed up of it. I don't want to upset anyone but the modding of the English side is a joke.
There's so much in the way of arguing amongst others over silly power-trips any actual modding is drowned by it.
Not to mention people throwing hissyfits over every decision ever made, even those made by Steet himself, because they don't suit a handful of people in particular so they've just GOT to be wrong.
I'm not sure when was the last time anyone actually asked Steet what he wants for his site.
A lot of people seem to have forgotten he actually owns it and is still the webmaster of the site, they're so busy critisizing every little thing he does or does not do.

I'm thinking of making a forum post about all this as well, for those that don't come on the site much.
tewolf
He doesn't often reply to general PMs much but whenever I've had a specific problem or thing to report he's always replied eventually.
If he's not been able to give any input on a new rule that's been suggested, or at least been able to say "Yay or nay" to actually making it an official rule, it's probably not the best idea to make it so.
Some proofreading wouldn't go amiss either, because I find this post pretty hard to follow coherently.
It seems to say renders are now banned, but not blank ones?
But also renders are allowed as long as you don't add official characters to it because the base was rendered from that character?
But they're also banned now?
???
UK--> We keep trying, but he never responds to any of our PMS.

I'm pretty sure mods are supposed to run any changes in rules by Steet first (or at least GreyWolf, even though she doesn't use the English side any more) so that there were no more problems with mods making up rules. Which was a problem some time ago.
It is his site after all, surely he should be at least consulted.
The mini modding comment is hilarious, having read through the comments and seen so much mini modding going on. :'D
Especially by people who's names begin with B or S. Which I find rather ironic.
