History: Kenai was the oldest pup in Kiska and Tungsten’s first litter. He was close with all his siblings, but particularly Naira. When Kenai was eight weeks old, he was adopted into a family with three young children who adored him. When he got older, his owners made him into a guard dog seeing that he was large, muscular, and had wolf in him. Though Kenai liked the idea of protecting his family, he never fought unless it was needed.
Kenai’s life went pretty smoothly for the next year or so until, thanks to the Great Depression, Kenai’s owners couldn’t afford to live in their house anymore and had to move to an apartment that didn’t allow pets, especially large ones like Kenai. Kenai knew his owners would still live in town and be able to visit him, but he was still devastated to leave his beloved humans. However, Kiska’s family brought him in, and he was happy to be living with his mother. They allowed him to continue his role as guard dog. It was around this time when Kiska announced that she was pregnant again, and Kenai was glad he would be able to protect her mom as she carried his new brothers and sisters. However, one day, Kenai’s grandfather Steele came to town and seemed to want to apologize for his past mistakes and finally get to know his grandpups. Kenai was excited to get to know his other grandfather, but Balto warned Kenai to stay away from Steele. Kenai was upset and believed Balto was just jealous since he was no longer the only grandfather Kenai had in his life. However, it was soon revealed that Steele’s true intention was to kill Kiska for infiltrating his bloodline with “wolf blood.” As he was about to attack Kiska and the unborn pups, Balto and Jenna came in the nick of time and stopped him, chasing him out of Nome. Kenai made sure to help fight off Steele as well, and he later apologized to Balto and the two made up. A couple weeks later, Kiska had her second litter. Kenai loved his new brothers and sisters and enjoyed playing with them, and often babysat them.
One day, while Kenai was guarding the house at night, a stray wolf appeared in his yard. Thinking this wolf was up to no good, Kenai growled at the wolf and warned her to stay away, but the wolf insisted she had no bad intentions in mind and was just looking for some food. Kenai offered to help, and upon closer inspection realized she was not a wolf but in fact a stray wolf-dog. The wolf-dog introduced herself as Storm, and Kenai went into his house and stole some of his humans’ food to give to Storm, promising her she could come back every day to get some food. Storm was extremely grateful for this and continued to come to Kenai’s house, particularly at night, to get some food. Storm started to feel something special when she was around Kenai, but constantly pushed it off because she felt Kenai was “too nice.” She just saw him as a source for food and nothing else. One night, Kenai’s owner caught Storm with Kenai, thinking she was going to attack her. He brought out his gun, but Kenai jumped in front of Storm and growled, protecting her. Storm then realized how truly special Kenai was to put his life on the line for a stray he barely knew, and she finally allowed herself to see him in a new light.
Relation to Balto: Balto’s grandson
