Appearance: Kivalina is pretty similar to Kodi color-wise, although her fur is more bright. She has heterochromia; her left eye is blue and her right eye is brown. She is short, stout, and muscular like Dusty. Her facial markings are like Kodi’s but the “point” on her forehead is shorter and rounder. She has Kodi’s front leg markings and Dusty’s back leg markings. Her tail flows and doesn’t curl.

Personality: Due to the jealousy she had toward her sister since she believed Kodi gave Willow more attention, Kivalina grew up insecure. She often feels rejected, particularly by her father, and wishes he gave her more affection. She has a bit of a temper, and can even get physically aggressive when crossed. She is somewhat impulsive. Really, though, she is a kind and soft-spoken dog who is particularly sweet around the people she loves. She’s a people-pleaser and wants to be liked by pretty much everyone.

Likes: Rocky, when others like her, chew toys, sunsets, fresh snow, the beach

Dislikes: When her father gives Willow more attention, when people walk out of her life, feeling lonely, cats

History: Kivalina was the third pup to be born in Kodi and Dusty’s litter. Growing up, she was closest with her brother Atka, particularly because they were the only ones in the family who didn’t have an interest in being sled dogs. She often felt left out, especially because she felt that Kodi gave the most attention to her sister, Willow. At eight weeks old, she was adopted by a young woman who had just moved into town, although Kivalina also loved playing with the young children in the neighborhood. 

    Kivalina tried to keep in touch with her family, and remained very close with Atka. However, oftentimes she would still feel as though Kodi was neglecting her to spend time with Willow. She would always spot her father and sister running on the beach together, and wondered why Kodi never spend quality time like that with her. Usually, she would try her best to shrug it off and go find Atka and hang out with him, but oftentimes she couldn’t help but feel dejected. However, she found comfort in her brother Prudhoe’s teammate, Rocky. Rocky could tell Kivalina felt saddened and neglected and wanted to make her feel better, partly because he had a crush on her. The two of them eventually became friends and started dating, and Kivalina was grateful to have Rocky with her when she felt everyone else was pushing her away.

    Kivalina began to grow increasingly jealous of Willow and all the attention she got from Kodi, and as a result, became cold and bitter towards Willow. The two sisters weren’t on good terms, although Willow wished she and her sister could just make up. However, one night, Kivalina took things too far when she attacked Willow and injured her leg the night before a big race that Willow had been training so hard for. Willow was devastated, because it was the race to determine who would be on the racing team she had always dreamed of being on, but she was more hurt that Kivalina would do something so terrible to her own sister.

    Willow fell into a bout of depression, and although Kivalina felt bad about what she did, she pretended not to care. However, her guilt began to eat at her as she realized how much this race meant to Willow, and she eventually apologized to her sister and the two made amends. Kodi then apologized to Kivalina, explaining that he never meant to make her feel left out; he was just giving Willow some extra help since she wanted to be on a racing team so badly, but needed the extra push since she was the runt and therefore weaker than the average dog. She mended her relationship with her father, glad to be on good terms with both him and Willow. When Willow tried out for the racing team the following year, she made the team and Kivalina couldn’t be prouder. To make things even better, Kivalina and Rocky became mates and considered starting a family.
