History

Born to a lonely German Shephard and a curious Grey Wolf, Makoza started out life simple enough. When his mother’s owner learned of her pregnancy he’d done what he could to help her through the birthing and as soon as the pups were old enough they were given away to kids of the town. Makoza was adopted by a young boy, completely unaware of Makoza’s wolf heritage and therefore his rather unpredictable behavior. Thankfully Makoza took to life with a human family well and acted as any ordinary puppy would. He chewed up shoes and socks, dug for bones in the yard, and chased his tail. As he got older, however, it quickly became clear that he wasn’t just some ordinary mixed breed. Makoza grew bigger and definitely showed more signs of being territorial than a normal dog would and eventually that lead to him attacking one of his humans’ neighbors’ dogs. Makoza hadn’t really meant any real harm, the dog had just gotten too close to what he’d deemed ‘his’, but it was enough for the family to look more into Makoza’s behavior than just writing it off as ‘normal dog things’.

They looked into the person they got him from and learned from people who’d gotten his siblings that they were much the same though to various degrees, both good and bad and that Makoza was a fairly good middle as far as the extremes went. Once looking into it a bit more, that made a fairly good guess as to his wolf heritage and then promptly threw him out into the closest cluster of woods they could find. Makoza was confused and alone. Why had they left him here? He couldn’t understand, he didn’t do anything. Surely they were going to come back for him right?

Wrong.

Minutes turned to hours, hours turned to days, and days turned into a week and still, there was no sign of Makoza’s people. Lucky for the wolfdog natural instinct is a thing and he was able to find food fairly quickly, though it wasn’t without its many trials and errors. In fact, it had so many errors that Makoza went hungry more often than not and as the days grew on it quickly became apparent that he wasn't going to last long as he was. Still, he waited, hoping that eventually, his family would return for him. After all, he was their dog, right? They had to come back for him.

Only they never did.

More days passed and Makoza was quickly starting to waste away. His ribs had begun to show and for a pup barely over the age of six months, he was not at all fit to care for himself out in the wilderness of Alaska. Thankfully, it seemed Makoza's luck hadn't yet run out. One day while he was out searching for any hint of food, he happened upon Aniu and her pups. Both Aniu and Makoza were noticeably wary of the other, but once the wolf realized that Makoza was just a pup no older than her own she quickly changed her tune and gently called out to him. Makoza was naturally hesitant, but after a little coaxing he came out and softly introduced himself. From there Aniu learned of Makoza's situation and quickly decided to take him in with her own pups, Makoza was again hesitant, but if he didn't there was no telling how much longer he'd survive.

With Aniu's, and in turn her pack's, help, Makoza quickly made a turnaround for the better. He learned how to hunt more effectively and as winter approached he even learned how to find food in the harshest of times. While with the pack, he grew especially close to Aniu's daughter, Artemisa, who more often than not had the male trailing behind her like a lost puppy. And while Makoza's feelings for the other wolfdog never went beyond that of friendship, it wasn't uncommon to hear gossip among the members of the pack of a 'budding romance' between the two. Both Makoza and Artemisa adamantly refused those claims, but talk continued regardless.

Time passed and eventually, Aniu's time within the mortal plain came to an end. Artemisa decided to leave the pack then, and naturally, Makoza followed. The two would eventually reconnect with Artemisa's brother, Balto and Artemisa would go on to take two mates from around Nome and have two litters of pups. Makoza was happy to be an uncle and helped Art with whatever he could.

Now, Makoza continues to live in and around Nome, occasionally visiting both Balto and Artemisa, but mostly just keeping to himself.

Personality

Personality:
Makoza at first glance is a quiet and reserved individual, and while this is mostly true, there's a lot more to him than just that. He does indeed enjoy his solitude, but as a naturally social animal, Makoza does often seek out the company of others, usually just in the form of those he knows well. He isn't usually quick to share opinions and thoughts with strangers, but around those he's comfortable with, he's an open book. Makoza is playful and likes to joke around, but it can take a while before one will see this side of him.

Because he was abandoned by his human family, Makoza has an innate distrust of humans and because of this can come off as aggressive when he's actually just wary. Like any dog who's been on its own for a while, however, once he gets used to someone he will open up and trust them enough to relax around them. It just takes a while to get there.

All in all, Makoza is a fairly normal wolfdog with a wariness to those he doesn't know and an openness to those he trusts.

Like(s):
Solitude, quiet, the ocean, nighttime, Spring, the taste of rabbit, Artemisa.

Dislike(s):
Loud noises, humans, most other canines, being snuck up on, others disturbing his solitude.

Fear(s):
Thunder. Rejection.

Regret(s):
That he never learned why his family abandoned him.
