Personality/history: Growing up, all Hale knew was pain. Both physical and emotional. Hale couldn't recall any memory of his mother. He felt completely alone, even with his father around. Hale never felt safe around the older male; he was always scolding him for no apparent reason, and Hale grew to be timid and questioning his sense of right and wrong.

Hale met his uncle Izaya when he was almost 4 moons old, and there was a shift in the wind. Hale felt comfortable around him, and let himself hang loose. Eventually, Hale decided to stay with Izaya, who introduced him to his other uncles and aunt. Having only known timidity and fear, Hale began to learn what love was like, and he couldn't have been happier with people who he could trust. It wasn't long until Mercer returned  for his son only to be confronted by Izaya, who refused to give Hale up. Mercer didn't put up much of a fight, but was still never the less 'glad' his son was okay. 

Hale and Izaya took up residence in Nome, Alaska. They decided to stay with Balto, a wolfdog who seemed to know of Izaya and Sydney. Hale quickly got himself a job on new sled-team who had recently been formed. He was placed as a Swing dog. Hale befriended Kirby, lead-dog of a mail-team that delivered to the town.
