Persona:

Personality: Nikolai is a very friendly, kind sleddog who tries to see the better in situations. He's a hard worker and does his job best, but would only have his team to thank for it. He dislikes seeing the bad in things and tries to take life as something that is just meant to happen, and tries to tackle the everyday challanges thrown at him. He's a huge optimist who tries to cheer others up and encourages his whole team at times when the going gets rough, but he's a hardy dog who won't throw the towel in right away. He's also very loving and tries his best to reach out to his family, even to his step-grandchildren (which is Jenna's side of the family.) Otherwise, Nikolai is a very affectionate father and wants the best for his family.

Friends: He's very friendly and will approach anyone; he's very close friends with Jaeger and the two are an unseperable team.

Enemies: None that he knows of. He thinks he has a friendly rivarly with some dogs when most likely, he annoys them or they actually dislike him.

Bio/History:

Being a Seppala husky, Nikolai was born to work hard and was expected to be very bright for a dog- and that he was. He was determined to be loyal to his owner and both his team, and for his time, was ultimately one of the best dogs at what he did. Eventually his owner pulled him out of dog sledding and he was to be a search-and-rescue dog for the town, among a few other chosen dogs. People outside of Nome would come and even offer large amounts of cash for him, admiring the dog for his skill and loyalty, but his owner loved Nikolai and couldn't part with him. They had a very real bond, and the whole town grew to see just how close and reliable the relationship between dog and man could be. The other rescue dogs came to be quite envious, as he was the obvious favorite and getting all sorts of attention, but he was kind and tried to approach each dog as a friend rather than a leader. They all shared the same goal- to stay by man's side and to aid them when they needed it. With their teamwork and cooperation, they became the most reliable team in Nome to save lives.

However, it was one night that challenged the team to the ultimate test. Nikolai and the team were forced into a freezing blizzard to retrieve a few important packages for the town. The townspeople were worried due to the weather conditions, but had faith that the team would be able to make it back. In fact, they had ran in record-timing speed to the station, but on the way back, disaster started to unfold. 
Nikolai was growing weary and tired, and with the blinding snow searing his into his eyes, it was hard for him to see-- and unfortunately, slid on a patch of ice covered by the snow. By another unfortunate mistake, he was tangled and, unhooked from the harness. The rest of the team took like a domino effect and slammed into one another, yelping and crying out as Nikolai slid away from the team and into the dark. He tumbled down a hill, crashing into thick trees along the way, and slid to the bottom. That was when, exhausted and in pain like he'd never felt before, Nikolai blacked out.

When he woke up, it was still snowing and freezing, and his body had grown quite numb to the piles of snow that covered him. Trying to regain his strength, he shakily rose up with much difficulty. He couldn't catch the scent of his team and hoped that they had at least made it back into the town, but he had another thing to worry about, and that was his very survival. Nikolai tried taking a few steps, and made his way through the blanket of snow. It was thick and up to his shoulders, and it burned, but he was determined to make it back home. He couldn't let his team down and he certainly couldn't let his owner down, either.
Little did he know that a spectator stood off to the side to watch.

A wolf as white as the snow was observing the dog's struggle, and admired his strength and determination from afar. She felt she could do little to help him, and decided it would be for the better, anyways, as it wasn't common for dogs and wolves to interact with one another. However, something about this one that had her mind set differently, and she felt the oddest reason to help him. She wasn't sure why she was going to help this dog, but something within her knew that this would have some kind of larger effect upon her later in life. Aniu was one to believe in prophecies and visions, and never one to be out of superstitions, found herself slowly going towards the injured dog.

As she approached Nikolai, he reacted as any dog would; he was timid and alarmed for his life and bared his teeth. He was trying to make his way home, not to get eaten by a wolf. Even if he had little strength left, he would at the very least defend himself in case the worst came to worst... However, the strange wolf gave him a soft understanding look and Nikolai couldn't pull his eyes away from the wolf. Why wasn't she howling or snarling at him? He had heard of them living and running wild amongst these parts, but had never actually encountered one himself- well, until now. This one didn't seem particuraly menacing as they were brought out to be in stories, ...?

"You're hurt. Do not move, dog", she finally spoke after studying Nikolai more.

Nikolai grunted, but she was right. What was this wolf up to?

"I don't normally do this, but you're in such a weak condition that I'm going to help you. I watched you this whole time", Aniu explained. Nikolai blinked. "You're as stubborn as a pup, but I just... Never mind." She shook her head wearily, unable to place her reason of fixiation on him. Nikolai was dumbfounded and honestly lost, but he had no strength or condition to be arguing now. Slowly, Aniu led him out of the open and into the edge of the thick wood.

Once they had seeked shelter under a few logs and boulders, and Nikolai had rested a bit, the two had exchanged names and stories about their lives; the wolf curious and amused by the dog's ways, and the dog in wonder and marvel as he heard about the wolf's life. Each found out that the one was not what they thought to be, and they even shared some things in common. Through a sort of odd bond, the two made a compromise to find each other every so often and share stories, bonded over curiousity over each other's lives. Nikolai thanked Aniu for saving his life, and with a different point of view, made his way back to Nome. The trail was a few days old, but after gaining his strength Nikolai's nose helped him catch scent of the other dogs and his human, and he found his way home. Everyone was ecstatic, and things went back to how they were.

Over time, the two became very great friends. Aniu, as the wolf had introduced herself as, was apart of a large pack that was just a little ways from Nikolai's small town, and she told him of the vast territory they had and the plentiful food. Nikolai loved her, but he knew his place and that he had no chance among a pack of wolves. He trusted Aniiu herself plenty, but he just couldn't bring himself to endanger his life trusting wolves- no, strangers, while any one of them could snap at any given time. Aniu was heartbroken, but also knew what was right. The two saw each other anyways, and she as she grew bold, came closer and closer to approaching the town. Nikolai worried about the other dogs catching scent of wolf or being caught with her, so he promised to meet her along the outskirts of town-- a new boat had been built, and he knew no humans were using it yet-- it would be perfect and safe for them to meet there without the fear of being caught or worse,  killed. One night, the two proposed their feelings to one another and within months, had a small litter of pups. 
Nikolai tried being the best father he could by bringing scraps from the dumpsters to his family, even getting caught and beaten a few times. But he was loving and loyal, and would even still sneak off to see them. He knew that the pups would grow up to lead a harsh life, being half-breeds, but he tried to assure Aniu that they would grow up to be just fine. Aniu tried to convince herself of this as well, but the two had ended up separating the pups; those who looked more dog and those who looked more wolf. Nikolai promised that he would raise his half of the pups to be great dogs; Aniu promised that she would raise the smartest and most keen wolves around.

With their own very different lives to lead, the two were heartbroken not being able to see one another again, but they both knew it was for the best and continued to raise the pups the best they could.
