Bio
Born to a stray female hybrid who lived on the streets of Nome, though his father, a prized sled dog lived a pampered life and when Malacai was still young he was taken in by his father's masters. His mother came to live along with them but she felt like she was a burden to his father's owners and one day left to live on the streets again. So Malacai switched back and forth between his parents, giving him street smarts from his mother and arrogance and popularity from his father.
When Malacai was one his father's family sold him to a local musher in Nome. The same musher who's team had once included Steele, Kaltag, and Star. The musher saw that Malacai wasn'ta purebred but still saw potential so he decided to train him. Malacai was soon a speed demon and every musher wanted him on their team. Once again Malacai was sold but to a family, who's father was a musher. His new owner had a daughter named Emily whom Malacai guarded with his life. Though Malacai was a defiant young dog still and chewed on all sorts of things and caused all sorts of mischief.
And he was threatened to be sold twice, only to have Emily come to his rescue. One day while out with his new team the lead dog, who Malacai despised for taking the lead dog position, lead them to a frozen waterfall, the ice was slippery at the top though and sections could break easily. As they were making their way down the path the ice broke and all the dogs fall to the icy bottom. Most had broken bones and cracked ribs including Malacai, who had landed beisde the musher.
The musher had caught his knee cap under a tree branch and ripped it out of place, Malacai knew that none of the dogs could go get help and he was too broken to make it back to town too. So he waited until the next morning, when other teams would be in the area, Malacai howled and got their attention. Luckily they were all saved but most of the dogs went into retirement and so did Malacai's new musher. Emily, who was now a teenager, was heart-broken that her dad had given up on something her family loved.
So with Malacai as her trusted lead dog she got together a rag-tag team of strays and created her own team. They won the Iditarod the following year and Malacai soon decided to become a mail dog. Though tragedy came back and Emily was diagnosed with cancer. Malacai was worried sick and never left her side. But while paying the medical bills and sending their daughter to different hopsitals around the US, the small family was running out of money, they didn't have enough money to own a dog team after awhile and all the sled dogs were turned loose or sold. Malacai was one of them.
Malacai was so depressed that he didn't run with the mail team which worried Dusty, a female who had admired him, and many other members of the team. Malacai didn't speak for a long month and after losing his first race in his racing career he ran away from his new master. He found his mother on the streets again and lived with her for a while until Emily returned from a hospital from far away. Malacai was waiting on the porch when they got home and the family then knew they couldn't shake their loyal pet.
