Description

Detail Jimmy (Train)

First I'd like to say yes I know his history is very long, but the reason for that is because he is based entirely on  a rock album where each song is an important part to his history and character development. There will probably be some of you that will say that elements in his history are things that would never happen in real life. All I can say is deal with it because I wanted to get as close to the story line to the rock album as I could without changing the overall plot line.

This character is based entirely off of the rock album Quadrophenia by The Who

Name: Jimmy

Age when he ran away: 3 years old

Current age (if still alive): 6 years old

Breed: 100% Husky

Crush: None (DON'T ASK!!!)

Crushes on him: None (DON'T ASK!!!)

Mate: None (DON'T ASK!!!)

Likes: The ocean, rain, being himself, being free of the sled dog life

Dislikes: Being someone he isn't, being ordered and bossed around, being a sled dog

Theme songs: The entire Quadrophenia album by The Who

Relation to Balto: Steele was one of his idols when he was growing up (This was before the serum run); got in a fight with Steele and won before he ran away

Personality: At first galnce, Jimmy would seem like an enthusiastic and optimistic individual that loves being a sled dog, but if you met him "behind closed doors" you would know about his love/hate relationship with not just his job, but with his life as a whole. When things seem like they are good, he tends to be pretty satisfied with himself and his position, but if just one thing goes wrong or upsets him, he becomes gloomy and depressed and just wants to be left alone. He wants to consider himself as a sled dog, but he has to be expected to act a certain way and do certain things, which is the reason he has a love/hate personality. The realization that his dream job is not what it looks like has made him disillisioned.

History: While growing up, he was trained from the beginning to be a sled dog. He watched sled teams that came in and out of town daily and listened to the stories of great mushers and sled dogs that the older dogs told him and thought that it would be a glamorous life that provided all the fame and attention anyone would want, so he was eager to become one. However, there was an element to sled dogging that he didn't learn as a puppy. As he got older, he learned that there were ranks that the dogs were given, mainly by the lead dogs. Each rank had specific duties on their team and had to do what dogs from a superior rank told them to do. Jimmy didn't think much of it because he believed that dogs could rank up if they proved themselves. This was true, but it wouldn't be until years later when he would discover that the "ranking system" was completely corrupt!

Jimmy was ecstatic when he finally became a sled dog, But there were still several challenges he would face. All dogs in training were given their ranks after they officially became sled dogs and Jimmy's rank was "grunt," which was the lowest rank of all and the most frequent. They also were typically the ones that did all the crap jobs on their teams. Jimmy felt disappointed because he thought he trained really hard, but the lead dogs told those that were labeled as "grunts" that they could still rank up if they proved themselves. After learning this, Jimmy was very optimistic, but in reality, it was a big fat lie. The lead dogs picked the ranks based on connections and what they knew about the dog and it wouldn't be until years later that Jimmy would find out about this the hard way.

For the first several months that Jimmy was a sled dog, everything seemed to be okay. However, he was still working hard to prove that he was not a "grunt," but he still hadn't ranked up. Nonetheless, he still liked going out on runs. But the more he got involved with his job, the more control it had over his life. Sled dogs weren't allowed to socialize with certain dogs or do certain activities because they affected the "image" that sled dogs had, which the lead dogs made sure was high. Sled dogging wasn't just a job, it was a way of life. To get the new dogs to understand this, the lead dogs told them that this was the way it was because it would teach them the morals of being a sled dog, the morals of being a team member, it kept order in the town's dog society, and because if they did not follow these rules, they would be sucked into a life of violence, hatred, and no morale values. Typically, most new dogs accepted these beliefs because they were taught them at a young age and the lead dogs made sure they did a good job at teaching these lessons in a positive way. Jimmy accepted these lessons, but deep down, he was having his doubts.

As Jimmy progressed down the road of sled dogging, he learned from first hand experience that being a grunt meant that you did all the hard work, and didn't get any of the glory the lead dogs got, but because of the lessons (which were really lies) the lead dogs had taught them at young ages, no one complained or said anything about it.  However, Jimmy was beginning to have conflicting views about his job. He didn't like that a sled dog's social life was so restricted, but at the same time, he still thought that these restrictions helped him and other dogs. It wasn't the glamorous life he expected, but all the good things about it seemed to outweigh the negatives. But negatives that very few knew about were about to be revealed.

This is where the Quadrophenia album takes up his history

I Am The Sea: One morning, Jimmy goes out to the beach. He likes being at the beach because the sound of the waves and the feel of the water relaxes him and it makes him forget about the stress of his job. Sometimes, he even thinks that he and the ocean can talk to each other. As he sat in the sand, listened to the sound of the waves, and felt the water lapping at his feet, he began to think about his job and the social life it called for and asks himself if it's worth it.

The Real Me: Jimmy begins to wonder if all the things he does to be a sled dog is the kind of dog he really is. He goes around town, asking friends and family if his "sled dog" self is the real him. They all tell him that the real him is the person that he wants to be.

Quadrophenia: Jimmy goes out on a sled run with his team, and for a while and enjoys himself. But as the team is returning, some of the dogs begin to lag behind or lose attention, which causes them to slow down. The lead dog and swing dogs are greatly angered at this, and keep on yelling at them to stay focused and pick up the pace. When they get back into town, the team is scolded for not doing their job properly and to get their act together. Because of his questioning if all this is really worth it, he starts questioning if the lead dogs really care about them, or if they're more concerned with their reputation.

Cut My Hair: One of the things the team is also scolded about is that they look mangy and tattered and that no one would ever think they were sled dogs looking like that. Jimmy at first figures it's no big deal, but then starts to wonder why he has to look so up tight to be considered a sled dog. Regardless, he still makes sure to look nicer, but while he looks better, the teaching from his youth come back again and he wonders why he's thinking negatively about what he's told.

The Punk And The Godfather: Jimmy runs into Steele one day. He's very excited because Steele was a huge inspiration to him when he was a puppy and he hoped to be like him. He introduces himself and tells Steele about his inspiration to himself. However, Jimmy goes way overboard in telling him about his inspiration and his goals for the future and Steele begins to think of Jimmy as an overly excited fan boy with an unrealistic future. He starts criticizing Jimmy for his excessive following and tells him that he's the only reason he was able to accomplish anything and that if it weren't for him, Jimmy would just be another anonymous face no one knew. He also tells Jimmy he's just like all grunts.

I'm One: Jimmy is shocked at how ruthless and uncaring Steele is and starts to reflect on what he told him. At first, he starts to accept Steele's words, but then he realizes that he's not like other sled dogs, and decides to throw away the false idolship he created for himself.

The Dirty Jobs: Several of the lead dogs call on the grunts, including Jimmy, to do various jobs that need to be done. Because the grunts are assigned to do it, they're all crappy jobs the lead dogs don't want to do themselves. Usually, Jimmy can do these job with no problem, but because of the run in with Steele, the scolding, and how the lead dogs are treating them while they work, he starts asking why the lead dogs treat them like crap and says that they don't deserve to do stuff like this. Some of the lead dogs however, hear him and start pushing him around and almost beating him and tell him that he should be more careful of what he says. Jimmy decides to shut up, but after not saying anything for a while, his Karma tells him he's been screwed again.

Helpless Dancer: After a hard day of labor, Jimmy heads home. He decides to take the alleyways home, and in these alleyways, he sees exactly how much of an iron fist control sled dogging has over the dogs' lives. He sees a dog being killed because they're too old to work! He sees a dog left to suffer from the cold because he can't handle it. He sees a dog being dragged away screaming because he complained about his job. He even sees a dog being threatened with termination because of the girl he loves! He even sees dogs hiding from the lead dogs out of fear! He finally realizes that this sled dogging life is all wrong.

Is It In My Head?: Despite seeing all the madness, violence, and unequal treatment that sled dogging has caused to the town's dogs, the lessons from the lead dogs of Jimmy's youth come back and he wonders if he's really seeing all this, or if it's just illusions that he's created just because of his dissatisfaction with his job.

I've Had Enough: Jimmy once again runs into Steele. Steele still recognizes the overly excited fan and continues to taunt him about him being a "fan boy." Jimmy angrily tells him tells him that all he has seen in the sled dog life has been unfair treatment and false visions. Steele blatantly tells Jimmy that all he was taught s a pup was all lies. It was all crap that the lead dogs told new dogs to make sure that they would accept the lifestyle they were going into and to make all the hardships seem less terrible than they really were and so that they miss out on chances to be something other than a sled dog and that there's nothing anyone can do to stop it. Once hearing about this, all the things that Jimmy has seen finally make sense. He realizes that he's been living a lie his whole life and all he has known is a lie! After these thoughts torment him for several days, he finally snaps, and decides that he's had enough of living a false life, and runs away.

5:15: As Jimmy is running away, images of other hardships of sled dogging begin to enter his mind, things that he didn't think much at first, but now realize that sled dogging has affected the lives of dogs more than what he has seen so far!

Sea And Sand: Because Jimmy has no idea where he will go, he decides to follow the beach. After running all day, he finally stops, figuring that he's now far away from Nome enough to be completely rid of the sled dog life, which finally brings him to peace. But while he tries to relax and forget about everything, he starts reflecting on a night when he was going to be with the female dog he "loved" and thought she loved him too/ He realizes that she never cared about him. Instead, all she cared about was being with the lead dogs. He becomes depressed that even his love life was fake, but decides to forget about it, and tries to stay focused on being where he always loves being at: the beach.

Drowned: Jimmy is finally able to forget all about his life in Nome, and the only thing on his mind is the joy of being alone at the beach. With his stress gone, he imagines himself slipping into the ocean and becoming the sea. For once, he is completely happy.

Bell Boy: Jimmy meets another sled dog, who has been outcasted from Nome. The dog introduces himself as Sting and says that he was once the most famous lead dog in Nome. Jimmy remembers him from when he was a pup, telling him that like Steele, he was also a big inspiration to him. He tells Sting that he has run away because of the dictatorship the lead dogs have over everyone. Sting tells Jimmy that he had tried to lesson their tight control over everyone, but lead dogs that did not like what he was doing labeled him as a traitor and forced him to leave. Jimmy tells Sting that they should both go back together and tell everyone the truth, but Sting refuses, saying he's been newly born and that if he had a life like him, he would learn a lot.

Doctor Jimmy: With nothing good left in his life, Jimmy realizes that he's nothing and builds up a lot of anger and resentment. He doesn't want to live with this low life and know he didn't do anything about it, so he decides to return to Nome to settle some loose ends. It's been a week since he ran away and when he comes back, it's very dark, gloomy, and windy. Once back in Nome, he finds Steele and without warning, starts attacking him! The attack comes when Steele leasts expect it and it happens so quickly, he can't react fast enough to defend himself, or see who it is. Because of all the anger Jimmy has built up inside, he makes the beating as violent as he can, and he isn't afraid of people seeing. Once he has finished with Steele, he starts harassing other sled dogs, mainly ones he hates or dislikes, which causes him to get in lots of fights, especially with other lead dogs. But while he is doing this, he still has voices in his head asking if what he's doing is really him. The lead dogs are outraged by his actions, and decide to team up on him to stop him. However, when they move in on him, Jimmy is able to fight them off one at a time, motivated by his anger for these dogs that ruined his life. He sustains several bruises in the fight, but inflicts severe injuries on each of the lead dogs. With his final goal complete, Jimmy once again runs off into the wilderness, promising never to return to Nome again.

The Rock: Like last time, Jimmy follows the beach in the same direction as last time as he runs away from Nome, but he runs faster and harder with the intention to get even farther away from Nome to make sure none of his sled dog life comes back to haunt him. He runs all day and night as hard and fast as he can, but images of his life begin to play back in his mind, and despite being even farther away than the first time he ran away, he still feels like his old life is chasing after him. After running all day and night, Jimmy is huffing and puffing, but he still tries to run on. Fatigue finally gets to him, and he collapses and blacks out from exhaustion beneath a large cliff on the coastline that sailors have commonly referred to as "The Rock."

Love Reign O'er Me: Jimmy wakes up in the dead of night when he feels water falling on him. Miraculously, he did not die from his excessive running. Once awake, it begins to rain heavily. With no shelter, Jimmy is left in the rain, but does not panic because the feeling of the cold rain hitting against his body feels relaxing to him and the images of his sled dog life vanish all together. Finally at peace, Jimmy now learns that he does not need a glamorous job, idols, or to be a part of something to be happy. All he needs is himself.

Once Jimmy left, he figured everyone would forget about him and life would go on the same for Dogs in Nome. He was wrong. His fights against the lead dogs would become great motivations for other sled dogs to quit their jobs and stand up for their rights and after the serum run and Steele's real self was revealed, there was practically a big uprising against the lead dogs! Those that rebelled would chant his name in the streets and talk about how brave he was to do what he did and then start riots against the lead dogs and anyone that supported them. The "uprising" was no match for the dictator lead dogs, and the dictatorship that they all grew up in fell apart. Now, sled dogging is no longer a gang controlled way of life and everyone is free to do what they please. For months after the rebellion, Jimmy was highly talked about among the town's dog population, but as time went on, he was talked about less and less, until he became another face in history. Now his former friends are the only ones that still talk about him on a regular basis. Many search parties have gone out to find Jimmy ever since he ran away, but even after 3 years since his last presence in town, no one has heard or seen anything from him again, no one knows anything about his current whereabouts or if he's even alive. Many believe he's dead, but some know deep down that he's still alive.
