History
Timber was born in St. Lawrence Island, and his owner (Martini Luther) was a captain and owned a ship.
Mr Luther was taking some cargo across the sea to Nome when he and Timber (who was aged 2 years) got there, his owner liked Nome and decided to live there. So they moved in to the town and Martini Luther got a job, posting mail by dogsled. Timber was made the lead dog of the mail team; and, apart from the fact that he wasn't a hauling breed, he was very good at it.
Timber and Balto occasionally talked together, discussing their problems and struggles, and trying to help each-other out. Balto and Timber were very good friends.
Of all Balto's offspring, Kodi was Timber's favorite, because the young dog took so much interest in the mail job. Timber showed Kodi how he guided the sled, and taught him everything about being the team leader.
Kodi liked the sound of the job and said he wouldn't mind taking it on once Timber retired; Timber was gradually finding it hard to see, and couldn't sight the mail route clearly. Martini Luther had checked him with the vet, who announced that Timber had the disease called Collie Eye Anomaly. The vet also said that Timber might go completely blind and never see again. Luckily, Timber had only one affected eye, but couldn't carry on with his mail job.
Martini went to go back to sailing and fishing; Timber joined him on his expeditions. Kodi, meanwhile, took over the mail rounds.
