Name: Originally Luce, but was changed to Helena once she was adopted.
Age: 3 years
Gender: Female
Breed: Siberian husky (dirty faced)
Parents: Marlee and Chinook
Siblings: Bowser, Dega, and Barley
Mate: None
Children: Not possible, she’s been spayed
Disposition: Helena can often be compared to Old Hollywood actresses (think Katharine Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor, Lauren Bacall, Bette Davis, etc.) due to her behavior and little quirks. She walks with purpose and a confidence that can be seen from a mile away, though she does not believe she is superior to others. She doesn’t say much, only when she feels she needs to, and can charm her way out of almost any situation. Enigmatic is one word that can best be used to describe her, what with her reserved nature, well developed vocabulary, and slight traces of an English accent. Those who know her well enough understand that she is generous, faithful in friendship, sincere, and rather selfless.
Likes: Such as your average husky, she enjoys running and any type of physical activity. Cold weather has never been much of a bother to her, though she has always loved her naps by the fire. Just a simple running of a brush through her fur or a full blown grooming session is enough to keep her happy for quite a while. Keeping up her appearance has always been important to her, but the first things on her list of priorities are her family and friends. She loves meeting others that are just as quick witted and intellectual as her, because making mental connections with others has always been important to her.
Dislikes: Feeling smothered or held back, freedom is a necessity for her. She can be affectionate when she’d like to be, but only at the right time. Overly emotional displays often embarrass her, so she avoids them like the plague. Those who can’t hold a conversation will find themselves being dropped like a fly, though it will be subtle enough for them not to realize until she’s gone. Open books are a complete bore to her, as she likes to observe others, pick at their minds and figure out what makes them tick. Though she will never admit it, she is rather sensitive and hates feeling weak and vulnerable.
History: A little while after her birth she was adopted by William and Grace Bering, a couple which had moved from Europe to Nome, Alaska. Not long after they settled down did problems arise with their visas, and not wanting to make their situation any more complicated – moved back to England with their new pup. Three going on four years later they returned to Nome, Helena right along with them. Though she was born in Nome, some still viewed her as a foreigner and preferred to keep their distance until more was known about her. Never allowing others’ speculations and ideas about her deter her; she successfully reconnected with her parents and siblings and soon found her own place in the town.
When the Bering’s had moved back to England due to troubles with their visas, they decided to have Helena spayed because they felt one dog was enough for them. Though most of the hormones were removed, the instinct to breed will kick in from time to time, leaving her more or less a little bitter at the fact that she will never be able to have children of her own. Because of this, Helena harbors a bit of resentment and jealousy towards those that are able to have a family of their own. Seeing mothers and their pups is just an unpleasant reminder of what she’ll never be able to have.
William Bering has done much research on the Serum Run, having been an admirer of it for quite some time. He enjoys hearing stories about the tremendous bravery that was shown, and can often be seen reading about the Run or having long talks about it with his friend, Riley Hardey. William originally wanted Helena to be a sled dog, but the move to England put his plans for his new dog on hold. When they returned, he decided that she would just be a family dog.
