Name: Talamanca (Milly by owner)
Nickname: Tal, Manaca, Mil
Age: 2 years
Breed: Siberian husky / malamute
Parents: unknown (her parents where breeding dogs but owned by two different breeders so she doesn’t know her father)
Siblings: Luanda and 3 unknown brothers
Mate/Crush: none
Pups: none
Personality: Talamanca is a calm and well tempered kind of dog. She rather stays at home than straying around town. But she’s not a lazy dog. She makes a good job at her sledding-team together with her sister. Both are always together and Luanda, the more outgoing one, often drags her out of the yard and takes her to the boiler room or somewhere else to have some siblings-fun.
Likes: Talamanca loves her sister more than everything. She’s glad that her master adopted her also so they can stay together, forever. Also she likes her master, sledding races, laying in the living room in front of a warm fire, human breakfast like coffee and toast, her friends Kodi & Kirby, and her mother although she can’t really remember her.
Dislikes: Talamanca doesn’t like to be caught in a blizzard with her team, Dusty, wearing those dog-booties in a race, little children (´cause they’re always loud) and being alone.
History: Talamanca was born in a litter of 5. She is the daughter of two breeding dogs, a husky-mother and a malamute father, both owned by different dog breeders. Her father is owned by a friend of her mothers master who only let his dog to his friend’s to breed. So she doesn’t know her father but she wishes to get to know him. She lived a happy puphood, playing every day with her siblings, snuggling into her mothers soft fur at night, more than enough tasty food day by day, living in a house, being able to go outside whenever she wants because of the doggy door.
As she was about 9 weeks old her time to get adopted has come. Her owner already started to make the pups used to walk with a collar and a leash. So the new owners have it easy to get them home. She was very afraid of that special day in a pup’s life. How should she live without her siblings and her mother? She was never alone in her life before. As the adoption day has come she tried to hide under the closet in her master’s bedroom but in vain. Her mother, who had some litters before this one, grabbed her and carried her back into the living room where they should wait for their new owners to arrive. Every time she heard footsteps outside a silent whimper escaped her throat. And as someone was knocking the door she almost died of fear. She snuggled into her mother’s fur as deep as she could not understanding why she was so relaxed while her babies are about to be given away. All her siblings where squealing in excitement and jumping around the man’s feet, hoping to be the first one who gets a new, an own home. They didn’t think about the fact that they probably won’t see their mother and siblings ever again. The man took one of her brothers. He picked him up, took a closer look to him, smiled and placed a tiny collar around his neck. The pup’s expression was filled with proud; he was wearing his first collar. The man gave the breeder some money, both where shaking hands and then he hooked the pup on the leash and the three of them, the man, the pup and the breeder, went outside the house. Talamanca never saw her brother ever again. Sadness mixed up with her worries. Her mother told her that one of the humans who are coming to get a pup will take two of them so maybe she won’t be alone after the adoption. After a while another man came to adopt a pup. He directly walked towards Talamanca, bend down and let her sniff his hand. Talamanca first hesitated but then the curiosity was stronger than every fear. She took a step away from her mother and towards the strange human, sniffed his hand and started to wag her tiny tail. The human smiled, looked up at the breeder saying “This one.” And picked her up, tightening a light red collar around her neck. The breeder nodded “She’ll be a good one for your plans. You’ll have much fun with her.” The man went over to the breeder and handed Talamanca over to him then he went back to the pups. He watched them some seconds until he finally spoke. “I’ll also take the other female.” Done like said, he placed another collar around Luanda’s neck and carried her to the breeder and her sister. He gave the breeder the money, took the leashes and slowly started walking to the pup’s new home. So the adoption wasn’t as bad as Talamanca thought. At least she got her favourite sibling, her only sister, with her so she won’t be alone.
The man was living alone. He had no wife, no children, no family. He only had his dogs. He cared perfectly for them and soon started to train them. They should become sled-dogs, running in races. Both enjoyed the training and grew to beautiful young females. As they where about one year old they had their first start at a real race. They didn´t win but they where the third team crossing the finish line. Since then they where running in races almost every month, sometimes successfully sometimes not but they don´t care, they love to run and the whole racing flair.
Relation to Balto: Talamanca lives in Nome and is friends with Kodi & Kirby, she doesn´t like Dusty.
