Pups: Adopted Gingersnap

Personality:
Street Smart, sneaky, but business like in his affairs. He’s a regular con man, and never hesitates to conduct his business in a sneaky, deceitful way. He has no loyalties to any gangs in particular, but does have friends in high places, which he uses to try to discourage any hostilites towards him. But He is surprisingly not one to fight, and tends to be cowardly and try to talk his way out of it (or run off). Mac has had his share of scraps, and he doesn’t like doing it. He thinks his bandaged leg (explained in history) is too much of a sign of weakness, and always tries to hide that.
Seemingly selfish, but eventually, in the future,one act of kindness, changes him into a slightly better dog.
He’s a smooth talker, and a wily player with girls. He met his match with Alley, a tough runaway ex-broadway animal star (loooong story)

However, if someone he cares about(GingerSnap, or Alley) is threatened, he’ll stand up and protect her without a doubt.


History:
Born a stray on the streets of New York in cardboard box, his early days were a fuzzy blur.
His mother loved him and his siblings very much, but was weak, and sick. Nonetheless, she went out every night and scrounged for food for her babies. Little by little she grew weaker, but always remained the same strong, loving mother. Mac looked up to her with all his heart, he and his mother were very close....
However....
One day, she never came back to the box. During the night, she had been run over by a car. The young pups were worried about her, and after sitting in hungry silence, they went to look for their beloved mother.
It was a shocking and tragic sight when they finally saw her lying by the road. Grieving and scared, the pups shivered together. Someone found the bunch of them, and called the pound. When the pound officers arrived, Mac was scared out of his wits. While his siblings looked up helplessly, Mac decided to run. He got away, just barely eluding the pound men.
The scary encounter with the pound men, and the fact that HUMANS had killed his mother, made Mac very hateful towards people. He avoided them at all costs.
Mac lived his life on the streets, learning the ways of a lone street dog. He learned how to steal food, or scavenge. Being a young stray, he tended to annoy the older ones, they liked to hunt him down and giving him a good whippin’, sometimes he managed to escape this, and sometimes he couldn’t. The beatings from the other strays helped him learn how to run with his all. It wasn’t until his next run-in with the pound workers, that he learned how to negotiate. One of the workers had a female pet, she was a “pound security dog” of sorts, kind of like a “matron” for the pound “inmates”.
Mac managed to haggle for his safety. If that dog would find a way out of the pound, Mac would tell them where to find other strays. Mac turned on all the charm he had, the female seemed to go for it.
Opportunity arose, when one of the workers came into the cage to give him some food. With the doors open,”Matron” pressed against the worker’s legs, letting Mac escape through the open door and back into the freedom of the streets.

It was after this incident, that Mac made his business. Basically he became a powerful stray, and handled a bit of blackmail. Other strays, not wanting to be discovered and taken, would have to bring him scraps, else he "let slip" their location.
Knowing the desperation, helped him take advantage of them.
His life always seemed like it was in jeopardy, he was not very well liked, and many dogs(mostly males) held grudges against him for being a "Judas" to strays.
His plans backfired, when he became trapped in a corner and landed into the pound AGAIN, by his disgruntled "clients."

Each time he was thrown into the pound, he tried to find a new way to escape, he became somewhat of a "regular" and rather notorious for escaping in creative ways.
It was on another one of his backfired escapades,that he once again found himself in the pound. However, also in his cell with a lovely, but weak pregnant female. Secretly Mac adored her, he fell in love with her courage and gentleness. They never interacted, he watched her from the corners of the cell.
Time dragged on, Mac paced, looking for a new method to get out…
a load of dogs had recently been taken to the pound. There wasn’t enough room for them all, and not many were being adopted. The pound workers decided that there would have to be “mass liquidations” in two days.
The news reached the dogs in and threw them into a huge panic. Mac used every ounce of his brain power to save his OWN hide… He paced in the small yard in the back of the pound. The chain link fence…could not be chewed through but…
He began to dig, and eventually, came with a tight, narrow hole…but nonetheless the way to saving his skin.
There was not much time to make the hole bigger, but news spread, and it was worked on bit by bit. The pregnant female had grown bigger, and suddenly collapsed. She was taken away…Mac paced worriedly…
A few hours later, an employee carried her in his arms and settled her back into the cell. Mac was over joyed to see her back and came closer. Also with the female were three tiny puppies.
Mac was shocked, but he stayed near the female, watching over her, seeing she was still very weak. His ears perked as he heard the employees whispering in the hall. What they said made his heart twist. The female was too weak, the puppies were also small and took up space. They would be put down on the mass liquidation day…
Mac ran to the narrow hole and dug with all his might. He had to get them out of there. He HAD to.
As the sun rose, the employees began their grim task…the female and her pups the first to go…The man whispered…”Sorry girl…” and walked into the cell to take her in his arms. She looked up at him helplessly, glanced back at Mac and smiled weakly.
Mac growled threateningly, but he was too shocked to attack the man. The female and pups were scooped up, before he could move. The door slammed shut…
Mac howled and whined in agony, banging himself against the cage.
Panic and despair gripped him. He ran to the fence and found several dogs had already slipped out, several more followed. The cell was empty, save for him. He looked past his shoulder, and saw a small bundle…
One of the female’s puppies had been left behind, barely alive….she was helpless and unaware of her sad, lonely plight…
She was alone…
Mac was overcome by guilt, knowing, that she would be found and follow the fate of her mother. The rememberance of losing his own mother, made up his mind.
He couldn’t let that happen…not to the pup of the female he had loved.
He scooped her up by the scruff, and managed to squeeze himself and the pup under the fence, but not without the loose links digging into his leg.

Once out, he knew the pup had to be fed…ignoring the pain in his leg,he stashed her in a safe corner, and came across a cookie cart. Nabbing a gingersnap,he brought it back to the hungry pup and she licked at it eagerly.
Seeing how much she liked it, Mac smiled….and named her Gingersnap.

The loss of blood made Mac weak,a kind man found him with Gingersnap,he took pity on them both and gently tended to the gash on his leg (Mac acquires the bandage). Mac, though weary, let him do it without trouble. The annoying dangly part of the collar was cut off, leaving Mac with just the chain collar.
