He is the grandson of Nava. His parents abandoned him at a young age. Nava had to raise him whenever and however he could. One day on his first lead hunt, he fails quite miserably, so bad that he's ranked lower than the omega's Yak, Nuk and Sumac. He soon runs into a outsider female wolf to which he falls in love with, but it is eventually learned she was a spy from another rival pack. She attacks him but he defends himself and drives her out, swearing an oath that he would protect the clan at all costs. This grants him the rank of Beta and guardian of the old shaman Nava.

He appeared at the end of Balto II: wolf Quest. Taku is shown to be brave, honest, protective, loyal, trustworthy and honorable. He's ethical and knows what is right or wrong. As the beta he tries to follow what is best for his pack. Always sticking up for his leader and does not tolerate incolent comments about the higher class as shown when he was ready to duel Niju after his remark about Nava losing his ability to lead. Despite this he was open to the possibility of Niju having a point about the Caribou's possible return, but was against his plan of stealing from other clans. 

After the ice bridge is formed, Taku is the first one to trust and follow after Balto to which the pack soon followed after. After the long trip across the great water, he and his new leader Aleu arrive to the island where the caribou now lived. Noticing her lack of leadership and hunting skills, Taku takes it upon himself to teach Aleu the ways of the wolf to which they fall in love and have six pups. 

As a teacher he can be very strict with how he diciplines Aleu, forcing her to do the same techniques over and over until she either gets it perfectly or drops. When she does however he would reward her either with a little meal or a bit of praise. He is also protective of her as he was with Nava, not letting anyone mock or disrespect her. As a father to his pups he can be just as strict and gentle with them as he was to Aleu. Punishing them when they fall out of line or comforting them when they need the support, and making sure they know that he's proud of them and loves them no matter what they say or do.
