History: Chester was born a stray in Nome. He was adopted by an elderly couple when he was only a little pup, but was abandoned when he became too much to handle. They left him with their friend who worked at the post office; Chester was tied up in the back of the building for two months before he finally figured a way out. The man, who was left to care for him did not care much, and poor Chester was left to be a stray for almost a year. That was, until a small family with two sons (One of age 14 named Andrew (aka Andy); the other of age 3 named Jason) moved to Nome. Young Andrew grew very attached to the stray dog, and had been feeding and caring for him for months, against his father's orders. When the secret slipped, Andrew found his best friend in a life or death situation. The boy's father had taken the mongrel dog to the pound, where he was sentenced to be poisened to death the next day. Andrew made a deal with his father, that if Chester was able to prove himself worthy (in this case to pull a sled full of supplies to White Mountain for trade all by himself, mushed by Andy in just five hours), then he would be pulled from the sentence, and be used as a sled dog for Andrew's father, and for other purposes.
When the day of the race came, Chester was ready. He had never pulled a sled before, but Andrew knew by the way that he ran and the look in his eyes, that Chester was a born leader. When the gun was fired, Andy and Chester took off towards White Mountain. They'd have a lot of trails to cover, and without a doubt, dangers ahead. The upcoming weather did not seem dangerous to the people of Nome that day, so they let Andrew and Chester go ahead and proceed. But within two hours on the trail, it started to freeze rain, and the next hour was brutal for the two. As though that was not enough, when crossing a river back to Nome, the sled fell through the ice, causing Andrew to fall into the frozen water, and luckily not Chester. Somehow, the dog and the boy were able to get out alive, and though they took eight hours to get back instead of five, Chester's life was spaired. How? He had saved Andrew's life. Chester knew what to do when that situation happened, because when he was only a pup, the elderly man would go out with his dogs, and teach them and his younger grandson sledding. Chester caught on quickly. Well, he was claimed a hero, and from that day on, Andrew had a dog, a sledding dog of his very own. Chester on the trail, wears a black budded collar with a black harness, and a golden tag with his name.
