Appearance: Shanti is a light brown with white paws and on her left side she has a white spot that if looked at closely resembles a crescent moon.

Personality:  Shanti is kind and playful, but also careful. She holds herself back afraid to upset others. She is thoughtful of other’s feelings. She trusts her instincts strongly and though fearful at first when meeting others, she warms up to them quickly.

When she is comfortable around others, she is cheerful. When she is excited she bounds around a lot and when stressed she tends to have snappy or sarcastic thoughts.

Though nearly impossible to anger, when her loved one’s are in danger she can get dangerous. She’ll do what she has to do to protect them. However, she would never take another’s life, not even if they harm someone she loves. She’ll fight him to protect, but she’ll never take a life.

Abilities/ skills: Shanti is a fast runner and since she awoke her wolf instincts she is also a strong and agile fighter. She has better senses than dogs and even Kodi, because Kodi has more husky than wolf in him, the opposite of Shanti.

Shanti also possesses a strong sixth sense. It acts as a nagging feeling and makes her aware of nearby danger or far away trouble.

History:Shanti and her siblings were born into a pack of 15 wolves. Her brothers were the 1^st and 3^rd born, her sister the 2^nd born and Shanti the last and 4^th.

When Shanti was 4 weeks / 1 month old, their pack was attacked by another wolf pack. Her brothers were trapped and no one could get to them in time. Her sister had moments earlier left the den and disappeared. Shanti had been grabbed by her mother who ran away with her to hide her somewhere, since they believed she was the only pup left.

Somewhere on the journey, Myla [Shanti’s mother] got in an accident and lost Shanti. When she woke up she could not find her daughter anywhere. Grieving she sought her way back to her pack and was reunited with Toril [Shanti’s father], the survivors of the pack and her 2^nd born pup - Shanti’s sister - whom was saved by her uncle.

Shanti, meanwhile, was lost somewhere in the cold, snowy wilderness, until a certain mail sled team found her.

Balto Related

Shanti is not related by blood to any Balto characters. She is however very close to Balto’s son, Kodi. Kodi is like a big brother to her and she like a little sister to Kodi. Shanti trust Kodi completely and Kodi always has time for her. They are almost inseparable.

Shanti has sort of been adopted into the canine family in Nome. All the dogs, well most of them, and Balto see her as a part of their Nome family. The mail team / sled team, accepted her and she joined the team a little later.

Fanfiction:  Shanti appears in my fanfiction story “Where The Heart Takes You” and its sequel “Where The Heart Survives”. A third story in the series is planned, but I’m still working on the ongoing first sequel.

Shanti's family, meaning Toril, Myla and her litter siblings, are mine. Shanti's parents, Toril and Myla, are featured near the ending of my fanfic Where The Heart Takes You, and in the third story in the series they will return and Shanti's sister will make an entree, so I will create her character and maybe also create Shanti's parents here.
