Alaya grew into a beautiful young wolfdog, and had quite a few admirers, but Alaya didn't quite like those admirers, especially Rusty. Rusty had a bad habit of getting all he wanted, he was spoiled by his mother, and he expected to be the greatest, just like his father. So when Alaya said no, that was a challenge to Rusty. He made it his goal to win her heart and become her mate.

Alaya couldn't stand Rusty, and when she couldn't take it anymore, she ran into the forest, and found herself lost. It was getting dark, and she still couldn't find her way back. That’s when she met Danny. Danny is a wolf who left his pack and lives alone. He befriended Alaya and helped her find her way back. They became really close friends, and Alaya started to have feelings for him. Danny returned those feelings, and they became mates.

One day, Alaya and Dakota were out taking a walk on a mountain. Alaya went off on her own to go hunt an animal and left Dakota behind. Just as she was about to catch the animal, she heard a scream. Alaya raced back to where she left Dakota, and found the cliff she was sitting near collapsed completely, taking Dakota with it. It was a very long way down, and Alaya couldn't see Dakota anywhere, she looked for the nearest path down the mountain and bolted down it. She soon reached the bottom, and spotted Dakota. Lying there. Not moving. Dead. Tears ran down her face, and she let out the longest howl she could. Back in Nome, Saba heard it and recognised it was Alaya. She knew that Alaya hardly ever howls, unless shes having fun or there’s trouble. Saba ran to find her siblings and parents and they all went out to find her, they soon found Alaya, huddled over the lifeless body that was her sister, and they ran over. All of them, Kodi, Dingo, Saba, Alaya, Balto and Jenna (Aleu wasn't in Nome) all stood, tears streaming down their faces, and joined the howling. Jenna couldn't handle it, the death of her daughter, and collapsed, Kodi rushing to her aid. Alaya couldn't stand it, and blocked out the panic completely. She was in another place, with her sister as a pup, running along the beach. When they finally returned, their mates were worried sick. Dusty, who was a good friend of Dakota, couldn't believe what happened. When she finally spoke, she burst out crying. Danny comforted Alaya and Molly rushed to Dingo and shed her own tears.

As time went on, Alaya's love for her mate started to fade, he became more bad-tempered and anti-social, but his love for Alaya remained. As time went on, Danny became more anti-social, and more bad-tempered. Alaya’s love for him started to fade, and after a big fight between the two, Alaya then decided it was time to move on. She left Danny and returned home. She soon met up with Rusty again, and seeing his chance, attempted to win her over. He succeeded, and Alaya became his mate.
