Boris, what kind of goose is he?

Is goose is Boris?

I was watching Balto for Xth time when it dawned on me in none of the movies (Balto I, II, and III) Boris's true species isn't revealed.

Species

We do know he is a goose with a Russian accent but we do not know what species he is.

I did some googling and research and didn't really find any russian geese matching Boris's description or coloring.  When I was searching geese migration that go through Alaska this bird came up.

********From Wikipedia**********

Geese

Snow Goose (Chen caerulescens)

is a of . Its name derives from the typically white . The of this bird is disputed. The  and for example place this species and the other two 'white' geese in the genus, while some other authorities place it in the more traditional 'grey' goose genus .

This breeds in northern and the northeastern tip of , and winters much further south in the continent in the southern and beyond.

This species is a rare vagrant to , but a frequent escape from collections and an occasional feral breeder. For example, Snow Geese are rare visitors to the where they are seen regularly among flocks of , and geese. There is also a population in from which many vagrant birds in Britain seem to derive. In , vagrants are not infrequently encountered during the winter months. [*]

Goose

****from Wikipedia*******

Recongize the coloring and markings on some of these geese?  Does it look like the rascal comedian and caretaker of Muk, Luk, and Balto?

Boris

This may or may not be the exact goose species of Boris, but it could be one of few in the region.

If I have the species wrong, please do correct me

Actually, I was wrong, he's NOT a snow goose!

Snow geese are distinguished from the closely related and often confused Ross's goose due to the fact that snow geese have a black "grin patch" on the mandible, which Ross's geese (and, in this case, Boris) lack. Thus, Boris is actually a Ross's goose.

Emmajudy: Boris isn't afraid of heights (well, he is in Balto 3, but in the other two he isn't, and well, majority rules!)

Wolf_girl_772: Uhh, when does it say that?

He is a snow goose I think. I found that out today, while watching a documentary. My first thought was "OMG that looks like Boris!"

boris is a Russian snow goose! he is afraid of heights, but regular russian snow geese would live in russia when it is winter in alaska and when it's winter in russia they migrate to alaska in the spring so it is warm there.

Well, as far as I know, there is not a species called a "Russian Snow
Goose." Although he is called that in the movie, that is merely
referring to the fact that he has a Russian accent and he is simply
referred to as a snow goose. Now I could be wrong, I haven't done any
research on this, but it's just what I think. But back to the subject
of your article, you did some nice research. It does indeed look quite
like Boris. Keep up the good work!

Yes, I know that, but he's Russian, so it's sort of cool to call him a
Russian Snow Goose.

Okay, here's my only problem here: Boris is just a Snow Goose. There
is no species or subspecies called "Russian Snow Goose" in any of the
books in my extremely large collection of books on birds.

Umm... We all already know that Boris is a Russian Snow Goose. It's a
fact that all Balto fans know. Sorry, it's a good article, but your
information didn't really state anything new.

Its stated clearly in the third movie. But it wasn't really necessary
to say what kind/ of goose he was, in the first movie.

Ok first of all, Boris is a RUSSIAN SNOW goose. It's been said over
and over and over. Pay attention. Nice research though!
