Lupus felt his job was done and he started heading back to the roof while everyone was watching the TV. Pangari, seeing him, followed.
"Ten... Nine... Eight..." Everyone chanted. Charlie quickly went and lit the fuse. He rushed back just in time.
"Five... Four... Three... Two... One... HAPPY NEW YEAR!" All the dogs howled, drinking, hugging each other, laughing and patting each other on the back. And, as if on cue, the fireworks went off. Everyone raced outside to watch, oooing and aaaahhhing. Charlie had picked the right set up crew to get his fireworks.
Koko noticed something... Something strange, an odd feeling... He glanced down.
He was walking on his hind legs and holding his drink in his right paw.

In an alleyway, a Kai Ken slept through drunkness. Beside him, two Shepherds watched him snore and looked up at the huge fireworks display. They shook their youngest member awake, and he stared at the display and grinned.
"Happy New Year Navrex, Jordan." He said.
"Happy New Year Char." They said back simultaneously, smiling. They all hugged each other, tails wagging. Another year of adventure for them.

On the roof, Lupus was sitting, watching the fireworks. He noted movement beside him and looked over. Pangari looked back at him. They looked at each other a moment, and through no sense of control: they kissed. The fireworks blossomed overhead, as if celebrating that they finally did something with their feelings.
When they pulled apart, Lupus smiled, his unnatural yellow eyes twinkling. And he knew the words were right, even though they both knew it.
"Happy New Year..."

Whether I use beer, root beer, soda, or something else is my choice. Besides the point, ELK gave me permission and the idea to make Koko like beer when we discussed it. I don't see how you can expect 'better' unless you haven't been reading my fics up til now when beer was in every other one where possible. So pardon me for not living to your expectations, and if that's not what you mean you should have worded it better. If you think you can expect better than my best, all because of a reference to beer, then I don't see why you read. My choice, not yours, and I'm not going to change it to suit you. There was no need for you to make that comment, none whatsoever.

I have to say, the drinking references kind of spoiled it for me. Root beer and a good sugar high (since Koko has presumably never had soda before) would have been better, I think.

You really captured Koko's personality well, brilliantly, in fact! And even though you included a lot of characters with contrasting personalities, they all seemed to rise to the occasion and fit in for once :D And the little surprise at the end made the story really perfect :3 Really cheerful, really up-beat.. and just fun < 3 Great work! And thanks for adding Koko to your saga!
