Another Day, another bone: Heavenly Watcher

Lupus was roaming around San Fransisco's streets, looking for something to do. He hadn't had a mission in days, and it was his vacation time from work. In short, the amber-eyed Husky was bored. And because he didn't get paid until tomorrow, he was also hungry. His stomach gave a growl of protest as he walked, and he sighed heavily.
Man, I'm starving... Lupus thought, his ears pinning back unhappily. The garbage was emptied this morning, so there is no trash to look through... Maybe I could take a steak or something... But as soon as this thought entered his mind he started feeling a dark presence in the back of his mind, and shook his head to clear his thoughts.
That's not a good sign... So I can't just take the steak... What am I going to do for food? Maybe I can go hungry today... He thought, giving another sigh.
The Husky heard some noises behind him, and he looked back, slightly uneasy but ready to fight. Standing in an alleyway he had just passed, was Pangari, the Thylacine. She was wearing a gold hoop around her neck, and Lupus had come to learn by now that it was because she wore her halo around her neck instead of over her head. He had asked before why when he was in Heaven, but she only shrugged and told him she did't know. She was the angel evaluator, and was one of the very few who believed Lupus's story that somebody pushed him out of Heaven.
"Hey Pan. Your looking well." Lupus said calmly, but still uneasy. She, on the other paw, had her eyes narrowed a bit at him.
"Heaven does wonders. What were you thinking about Mr. Cantus?" Lupus flinched slightly. Not only did he hate being called by his last name, but she only called him 'Mr. Cantus' when she was feeling testy. He had a bad feeling in the pit of his empty stomach she knew what he was thinking about.
Figuring he'd only add up on his bad score if he lied, he decided to tell her the truth. As angels should anyway, Fallen or otherwise.
"Well... I was hungry and my paycheck doesn't come until tomorrow from work, the garbage was taken, so... I was thinking to try and steal a steak." He saw her eyes narrow slightly more and said quickly, "I wasn't going to do it!" The evaluator's eyes softened a bit at this, and she gave a small nod.
"You have to be careful Lupus. Your last mission nearly knocked you off the balance. I keep your scale by my desk every day to keep with your progress. Your still a bit on the evil side but your very close to neutral again."
"Lovely..." The Husky replied, shutting his eyes and sighing. His stomach growled really loud, and his ears heated up in embarrassment. Pan smiled and giggled a bit. She liked the younger Husky, but she hid it really well. She had a miracle, and got one every visit, but she normally never used them.
She figured if Lupus could prove he could do something good without being told to via mission, she may use her miracle to get him food. But for now, she'd follow him around. His voice snapped her out of her thoughts.
"I wonder what Charlie and the others are up to..." He wondered aloud. He started walking, Pangari not far behind. She wondered if this was his chance to shine.
I think he may finally earn some redemption on his own. She thought, smiling. It would be so good if he did. The Husky wagged his curled tail idly, ignoring his growling stomach. After awhile of walking, something instinctual told him to stop walking, and he looked around, wondering what was up.
  "What is it Lupus?"
"I'm not sure... Something just told me to stop here..." The Husky growled as he looked around. He glanced upward, seeing nothing, then into an alley, and what he saw made the fur against his spine spike up. There was a puppy backed into a corner, whimpering, four mutts moving toward it, growling and giving threatening barks.
"Pan, over there!" Lupus barked, running across the street, regardless of traffic, cars honking at him. The Thylacine followed, wondering how she could help against the dogs. Hearing a sound behind them, the mutts turned and growled. Lupus, regardless of them being bigger and older than him, jumped and bit the nearest one on the back.
The other three turned and started attacking him, him digging his teeth into the one he had. The puppy barked, Pan picking it up and getting it out of harms way.  It was three on one for the Husky, Lupus not caring about the scratches on his body, and the blood coming out. Lupus's adrenaline was pumping, the only thing keeping him from falling unconscious was the thoughts of letting Pan get away with the pup.
When he thought he was going to go down, he felt the three dogs tackled off. Lupus looked around, and saw Charlie, Zak, Joey, and Ricky. He felt himself starting to fade out of consciousness, his jaw loosening off the dog he had, but Ricky started dragging him away from the brawl. Charlie and Zak took on one each, Joey took on two.
"Hold on guy, I'll get you somewhere safe." Ricky said to Lupus, the latter giving a weak nod. "You're crazy you know that? Taking on four big dogs on your own." Lupus glanced around, not seeing Pangari anywhere, figuring she got far away.
Then, unable to stay awake, he closed his eyes and fainted away.

"He's okay right?" An anxious voice asked, sounded like a male. "He didn't take any serious damage right?"
"He'll be fine. He's just a little banged-up." Was the reply, another male. "Brave thing he did, he didn't even know the pup. It was just a stray."
"Still, those scratches looked deep." He heard Pan's voice say.
"Looks can be decieving, they'll heal with no scars... I think he's awake." Lupus felt a few eyes turned on him. He slowly opened his strange eyes, looking back at all looking at him. Charlie, Joey, Zak, Duncan, Pangari, and the pup they had rescued were watching him.
"Hey buddy. Those dogs did a number on you huh?" Joey asked, giving a small smile. Lupus's throat felt dry, and when he tried to reply all they got was a groan sort of sound. Knowing what the problem was, Zak and Duncan went to fetch the poor dog water.
After they returned, Lupus started gulping water down as fast as his tongue was able to lap it up. Under normal circumstances it'd be funny looking, but because he was injured everyone waited patiently for him to have his fill.
"Thanks... How long have I been out?" The injured dog asked, looking curious.
"A few hours. We're at my place now." Charlie said. Looking around a bit more, the Husky saw a make-shift tray by him with different kinds of food nearby on the floor. Not knowing whether or not it was his, he ignored it.
"We know your hungry, that's your tray. Go ahead, dig in." Zak urged, picking the tray up and putting on the bed beside Lupus. The tan Doberman wagged his stub as he watched the newcomer. Lupus gave a nod of thanks and started to eat slowly.
As he ate he noticed two cards with the words 'Get well soon' on them in puppy-scribble. He figured that they were from the puppy and Duncan. Picking one at random, he opened the first one up. Inside there was a picture of what looked like four very skinny dogs, one being kicked by a grinning blue dog (which was easy to figure out it was himself), what looked like Pangari and the pup cheering him on. This made the amber-eyed dog smile.
He picked up the next one up, and opened it, knowing it was from Duncan. Inside that one were the two Doberman brothers with what looked like Duncan between them, smiling, with a banner that said 'Get well soon! ~ The Slumdogs' over the trio. He looked up at them.
  "Thanks." He said, smiling wider.
"By the way guy, what's your name? I've seen you working around the Fleabite but I never caught your name." Joey said.
"I've seen you around town too."
"Yeah, I always was curious about you." The dogs gave different was to express how they knew the strange Husky.
"My name is Lupus. Lupus C. Cantus." The Husky said, offering his paw. Everyone took a turn to shake it, introducing themselves accordingly. He grinned and tried to stand up, but gasped in pain and went back down.
"You shouldn't walk for a few days, you'll be sore awhile." Charlie said.
"But... My paycheck tomorrow..." Lupus said. He wasn't trying to sound selfish, but he not only had to get food for himself, but for the food he ate from here. Joey shook his big head.
"Don't worry about it, I'll get it for ya. They know I'm trustworthy and they know you work there." He said. "I promise I'll get it to ya soon as possible." Lupus gave a grateful smile.
"Thanks Joey. You're a true pal." The Doberman rubbed his claws against his chest fur modestly.
"It's nothing Lupus. You're a coworker, a new friend, and injured. You deserve that check. Heck, I'll make sure you get a bonus." The big dog said, adjusting his bowtie.
Zak grinned and patted his bro's back.
  "Softy." He said to him.
"I could say the same for you." Joey said, pulling Zak into the crook of his arm and ruffling his head fur, grinning. The tan Doberman laugh and tried to get away, everyone laughing also.
